I've pulled a runner and am going back soon.
Any hairy situations arrise with the new school?
Such as... When getting new Alien Registraion Card? Did the Immigration Office mention that there had already been one issued.
Same with pension and visa. Do they inform the new employer that such an account has already existed?
Any legal punitive action the school could take once I'm there.
And by the way, they never asked if I'd been to Korea. Obviously I never brought it up.
PM me if you'd rather not post it for everyone to see.
Any advice appreciated. |

Immigration won't care unless your ARC is still valid (then you won't get a new visa). If you handed in your ARC when you left then you are good to go.
Non issue with pension as well.
Any legal action by the school = highly unlikely. Most unlikely. IF they know you are back in Korea and they know how to get hold of you then they may harass you a bit but litigation is unlikely since most of your contract (if you were at a hagwan) would have been voidable under the labor standards act.

Yeah, I was at a Hagwon and I did turn in my ARC when I left. Just midly nervous if the school asks for my passport to make copies of or something, too. Bottom line, I feel, is that they never asked. Not that I would really mind lying about it, but in this case I didn't. |

I'll raise my hand. I had no problems coming back. When I was applying for my visa, the immigration officer said something to the effect that I ran from my last school, but didn't ask why or press the issue at all. He processed the paperwork, no problems at all. As far as your old school going after you, it will no likely happen. The reasons are that it would be bad press for them as well as suing you would be a costly proposition. It would more than likely cost them more to sue you than what you owed them, so it won't happen. But I have done a midnight run(from a crappy hagwon) and successfully come back without any problems. |

I hope you paid all your bills before you ran last time. |

Paying your bills before you leave is a moral rather than legal issue as far as I have heard. I know a few people who left bills when they left (running or not) and all they had to do was pay the outstanding amount before they could get another phone/gas account etc.
Don't let people scare you.
On the other aspects of running, I have known a few who returned after a run and none had any legal or immigration issues. |

Always have spare photo-copies of both your passport picture and Visa. It's likely that if someones recognizes the extra E-2 visa it might bring up some questions. Once you have Jung(fellowship) with your school they won't care. I think your safest bet would be the tell them the school went broke and had to let you go. |

Fishhead, great advise. Keeping the spare copies handy with prevent any extremely uncomfortable moments in the first few weeks. School going broke idea is genius as well. Thanks. |

I just pulled a runner and am back in Korea looking for a job.
The recruiter I'm working with says if I didn't let my boss know I was leaving (i.e. pulling a runner), and he/she reported bad things to immigration, I could have trouble getting a new visa.
Is this true?
I paid all my bills btw, no issues there. |

Teachers here are not slaves - unless you make yourself one. You are always free to quit and leave. Most teachers seem to have no trouble returning to a different job on an E2 later.
There is almost nothing that you could have done, short of criminal activity, that will prevent you from getting a new E2 visa. |
