|
|
Hello Guys
My Girlfriend and I planning to get married soon and it will be in Korea.
I really do not have enough info about getting married in Korea since I do not live there. I tried to find some info here on the forums and on the internet about foreigner getting married in korea! And I found that we need to do something through the embassy! What do we have to do there? And is there anyway to avoid it? Because I come from country where you need to get permission to get married to a foreigner women and it is hard for me to do that and I do not live in my country anyway(live in Canada on a student visa), So I do not want to do anything with them!
Thank you!! |

| No, because the paper from the embassy is a declaration that you're not already married. You pretty much have to do it, however if you want more specific help/advice you're going to have to go ahead and tell us what that country is, perhaps there is someone here who has gone through it. |

Are you planning to immigrate here and get a Korean citizenship? If so, I don't think many people here can help you because we all kept our previous citizenships.
If not, I don't see why you need to do anything with the embassy. I got married two years ago and we didn't have to do anything.
Your wife might have to file a document to make it official though, but it has nothing to do with the embassy as far as I remember.
I am Canadian and we did get married in Canada as well to make it official in both countries, but all we had to do there is find a registered minister.
In Korea, as long as you file a civil marriage document (takes like 5 mins and you don't even have to be there) you'll be married. |

Unless you're already married somewhere, you have to file in Korea but in order to do so you need proof from your home country (or at least a declaration) indicating that you're not currently married.

You'd be surprised.
There might be someone around here who has done it.
You might look at doing the paperwork in Canada, they might not require a declaration from your embassy stating you aren't married, you can still have your ceremony and all the rest here, and just file the paperwork here. |

Thanks crossmr for your help
I though about getting married here in Canada but my gf was here few times before and she is uncomfortable coming here as a visitor again because she heard few times about people getting reject in the airport. So we though that best thing is to get married there in Korea!
The problem I have to get permission to get married and the have some qualifications that I do not meet. One of them that you have to be over 30!!!! (I think because the dont want saudis to get married to foreigners)!
Thanks for your help
I appreciate it |

probably not a problem so long as she has proof of onward travel, and if it can be done in Canada with your embassy being involved, then it might be your only choice. |

I'm from Hungary and I married my Korean wife there. They were a bit anal on the papers. A lot depends on the diplomatic whatever relations between the 2 countries.
Besides providing translated versions and original papers of the usual things: birth certificate showing parents as well, passport and so on... we had to get a paper from the Korean Embassy that according to Korean law, she is able to marry. The officer explained that they need this, especially from "exotic" countries as there can be some very unusal customs and laws which they have no idea about. Example: citizens of x country are not allowed to marry someone with colored skin.
Not sure about how they deal with this in Korea. Wife said it would have been easier here but I have no proof behind this info.
For the 2 of you, getting married in a 3rd country (Canada) would be the best bet.
Either way, your marriage will not be admitted by your country. |

They usually come on a form stamped from the embassy. |

| from the saudi Ministry of Justice website I found that I can request prove that I'm not married (which will be the best and maybe only way for me since I do not want to monition anything about the marriage) but it will be in Arabic. thats why i was wondering if they will accept translation! |

Your best bet is to have your girlfriend call the gu office here and ask what's needed for a saudi national, and for you to check with the government services in Canada and see what is needed for 2 foreigners to get married in Canada. The Gu office may be expecting a specific form, one that declares you aren't married and have permission for example, so even if you have a doc that says you're not married, it might not be enough if it's not the "right one". |

You can legally get married in Canada and still do your ceremony in Korea, can't you? I'd guess it might be worth trying the embassy in Canada and seeing what happens. It might not be that hard to get the paper...
Oh and I know from experience, if you've ever been married, you better bring your divorce papers to show that you're not married anymore. The embassy isn't necessarily up to date on your life. |
