i doubt it but figured i'd give it a shot regardless. i'm talking about aphex twins, squarepusher ect- sounds that lean toward idm*intelligent dance music and braindance, not trance, house music...

i predict that this thread will be buried in no time with zero responses- for such is the lonely life of an idm lover Sad

There is some, but not a ton.

The Seoulvibes group on Facebook does a pretty decent job of keeping up with that music scene, but they also include a bunch of other different genres as well: Dance, Drum and Bass, Techno and House.

no, theres more bands than before at hongdae because of they rock laptops, but nothing remotely interesting, imo. Copies of 90's Japanese ShibuyaKei bands mostly.

When Massive Attack and Proidgy came here, I heard they both scared the locals, esp Massive Attack playing anti-govt messages on their backboard neon boards in Korean. I love Prodigy, too bad.

One of the young guys I turned onto New Order made a band called Telepathy, kind of 80s influenced stuff and they play out alot, but still nothing like any of the scene in Japan. Boring stuff here.

I just go to Tokyo. (and make my own stuff Wink )

aphex twin, squarepusher? yeah, go to tokyo!

Seoul has a fantastic, but young and still developing EDM scene. I don't know what the above posters are talking about. It's nothing on par with major cities in Europe or South America, but there are about half a dozen large, state-of-the-art clubs in Seoul that host major acts every weekend.

Umek, Ferry Corsten, Deadmau5, Alex Kenji...there's techno, trance, electro, and house standouts...all in Seoul during April and May. There are also several great medium-sized venues with great residents all over the city.

Seoul is pretty much it, though. Busan is booming, but if EDM is your scene you'd best look there (Seoul) because you really won't find it anywhere else.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOxRUaRY2us Promo vid from Ellui, which opened last weekend. Main room footage at :40. Place fits over 3,000 people.

And Seoulvibes isn't all that great about putting up info. Your best bet is

www.partyluv.co.kr A lot of it is in Korean, but you can see dates, venues, and acts clearly. Have fun.

All of the really good electronic music in Korea is coming out of the city of Samcheok.

Aigo~ Well this sounds like a total bummer. Anyone know of any places that play drum 'n bass, gabber, dubstep, or psy? I thought for sure there would've been a KJ chapter somewhere in Seoul.

lol

Samcheok doesn't even have a club....I assume your joking.

As for the scene....

Well, big act do come here. The folks who show up seem to be the same folks who'd show up anyway unless it's a week day. Granted, when famous Asian Djs come, the fans do come out. Daishi day and Dj koo pull in some crowds. I really don't think many koreans club-goers could tell the difference between most semi-famous Djs and a random ESL teacher/Dj.

Clubs try that trick all the time Wink
I'm surprised how many "big in Cananda" Djs I know here.

On the plus side, the underground scene is....really...really.....underground. No sell outs or wanna be cool tool bags!

Not specifically, but there are nights at various hongdae clubs that do it.

Look up events on facebook and befriend promoters.

You probably could have heard some Deadmau5 at the Walker Hill on Monday at THE DEADMAU5 CONCERT. Laughing I didn't go, but I heard it was awesome.
