One of my friends was telling me the other day that he's having a really hard time with his health. It's really weird because he was fine last year.
This year however he's been sick for... ever and now he's talking about Asthma. He asked me to post this back story as a bit of background.
In his own words: "just ask around on the Korean forms if anyone else is going through hell this spring".
Here's the article.

Come to think of it, that's not much of a "hell story."
Anyway he's fighting Asthma and Pneumonia. He's been to Asan hospital and is getting treatment. Over the last 2 weeks he's imporved a lot.
Anyway, are there are any books or guides that specifically address the "survival in korea" most ESL teachers go through? I'm looking for something that's published or print, not a blog post... there's tons of those around. |

"most" ESL teachers seem like a pretty healthy bunch to me except for the occasional inevitable hypochondriac and those who inflict poor health on themselves with too much boozing, bad diet and late nights. |

korea can be very dangerous to your health. yellow dust storm blowing from the west, nuclear waste water and sea creature attacking from the east, and crazy koreans constantly attacking from the north. i don't know what's going on down south though. |

Dead pig decomposition in water run-off. That is down South. Was in the news yesterday. Some bottled water has been affected. |

Hey Mitch,
I've been here 7 years, and I've never been as sick as I have this year! Two bouts of bronchitis and a diagnosis of asthma in the last 3 months alone. Always been reasonably healthy, hardly even had colds here..
Who knows... |

I just got over a cold that turned into an allergy, probably brought on by the arrival of spring, that lasted more than one month. I went to a doctor of internal medicine (or naequa) and he gave me anti-allergy meds that did the trick. |

Be careful. Was also reported that a mystery illness has claimed at least five lives recently. I believe the Jungang Ilbo online had an article yesterday. |

About the only time I get sick is when students cough on me. I wish their parents taught them to cover their mouths! Another thing I DON'T do is eat anything a Korean has given me and touched with their bare hands. Most Korean teachers don't seem to wash their hands after the bathroom! One school I teach at is very small (less than 80 students) and there was no soap in the bathroom for about a month. It only got soap after I brought some in! |

Teaching kindergarten has certainly damaged my health-- I contracted all kinds of illnesses from the kids the first month or so I was here. |

Not fan death....although we always need to be on our guard for that threat!!
This new disease hardens the lungs until breathing becomes impossible. Two dead so far as I've heard. A man and a pregnant woman. They know nothing about it. |

On the short run yes. But after a while your body will build up a defense system so strong that you can fight any diseases without even noticing. |
