Anyone else have a mold issue in their apartment? Can anyone tell me what they did to solve the problem?

For me -

Whenever I go back to my house I get really sleepy all the time, it smells like mold also, I recently washed a crapload of laundry but the laundry machine is broken and periodically leaks water. Water often pours all over the floor. This morning I had some sort of seasonal conjunctivitis (Allergic Conjunctivitis) in my left eye. I have a feeling they are all related, especially since I don't get sick very often. Yesterday there was a big yellow dust crap storm...but I stayed inside and locked all the windows.

Any help from the expert expats on this fine forum would be grand.

The Minnisota Dept of Health wrote about the health risks of moldy apartments...

I'm not assuming anyone here is from Minnisota, it was just one of the first links i found on google.

If you think you have mold, find it. Move stuff around, look behind things, etc.
Get some bleach and clean it up.
If it's really excessive, then you might have to bring someone in to clean it up.

if water is leaking and causing the mold, get it fixed. Talk to your school and insist it's fixed immediately. Threaten to discontinue working if they don't fix it immediately. Your job is not more important than your health. get a hygrometer. You can get them at e-mart for like 5000w and it will let you measure your humidity inside. If you're running very high, get a dehumidifier to dry things out.

I had some mold year before last. Cleaned it up, got a dehumidifier, now no problems.

this is my blog post from last year about the mold in our place, and it had been sitting for at least 4 months. plus, we found other mold under our kitchen sink, when we removed the baseboard to the cupboard. it was so brutal in our place last year.

but yeah, behind the fridge we just stripped the wall down to the drywall, until we couldn't see it anymore. then bleached the @$#% out of it.

we noticed a little difference after we cleaned up behind the fridge, but we didn't realize it was so bad under the sink. check EVERYWHERE.

Yeap, fix the source of your mold if you can and clean up your walls and floor. Get new wallpaper and/or flooring if you can or if you think it's needed.

If the cause of the mold is not actually from your machine but just from the building being crappy with the walls having no frigging insulation whatsoever, keep your apt as clean as possible and keep getting sunlight and fresh air into the place as much as you can before you can actually move somewhere else.
