Has anyone passed the 3 year mark at a University, or did you get canned after 3 years? Is it every Universities policies to fire after 3 years? |

Three years? I thought the normal policy was to fire you after only two.. |

It isn't every uni policy but it seems like a lot have that rule.
Mine doesn't...we have some people who have been here over 10 years. |

Four years at my my first (private) uni, then not renewed. No reason given, but pretty sure it was because of the pension scheme. One year contracts.
Just started my fourth year at my current (also private) uni. Two year contracts. 99% sure I will be asked to sign another two year contract in December.
I was also allowed to roll over my previous pension contributions from my old uni to my current uni. |

I've been at the same university in Seoul since 1999. No one there is worried about term limits. One of the nice things in my case is no contracts. |

No contracts? How does Immigration approve visas without contracts? |

F2 or F5 visa (typically for 'married to Korean' visas) is one step to removing the hassle of contract renewal. |

Yea, I know that.
So, you're saying that every teacher at your school is on a F visa and that you've had a F visa since 1999? |

No, I'm not saying that. I said it's one thing that works toward getting off 1 or 2 year contract renewals.
I also said that other teachers are not worried about terms limits. Since they have F2 or F5 visas and have worked at our university for 2-3 plus years, being let go for term limits would be a very big shock to them, especially since the 2-3 year mark has passed. I don't think that's going to happen with them, either, though.
Of course, anything could happen. People have been let go at our school, but not because of term limits.
Since you asked, after 7 years my school basically rehired me for a tenure track position, putting me at that point as an entry level faculty member similar to a Korean. Thus, no more contracts in my special situation. In some way a step back, but in others a VERY big step forward. |

Almost all people who began working at a university here before 2000/2001 have been allowed to stay beyond 5 years. Then the pension law changed around 2000/2001 so that they no longer have to match your monthly pension contributions won for won UNLESS you vest (ie, stay longer than 5 years).
Thus, people who started at a private university AFTER 2000/2001 generally are not allowed to stay longer than 5 years, otherwise the university would have to match your monthly contributions.
Note that the public universities (and a very few private universities that opted to stay in the national pension plan) still match your monthly pension contributions AND give you a 13th month bonus check for every year you stay on the job............ |

I'm in Year 5 and I've got a 2-year contract that will take me to the end of Year 6.
Does that mean I'm pretty much set? |

Define set please....
You are not set, you have a 2 year contract.
That is a good thing but being set to me would be having some form of longer term stability. |
