Hi Everyone,

An ex-roommate of mine (who taught in Korea in the past), recommends getting certain vaccines (like H1N1) as soon as I get to Korea.

What do you guys recommend?

Here's what the CDC has to say: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/south-korea.htm

But, in reality, you're probably fine as you are so long as you've had your MMR and Hep vaccines. If you haven't have chickenpox then you may want to get the vaccine. And, you may also want to see about the meningitis vaccine as there's quite a lot of food sharing in Korea.

And don't forget polio, small pox, and shingles. You can never be to careful.

Try and get them all done in one visit.

Hep-C is a good one to get if you plan on travelling Southeast Asia at all.

Right Rolling Eyes

I'm moving to Nepal and am in the process of getting 11 vaccinations. 11! They don't all happen on the same day. It was bad enough getting 4 on one day.

Get them done here in Korea where it's 25% as expensive as in the U.S. for example.

News reports are stating that malaria is crossing the DMZ so people up in Paju area should be especially concerned.

Japanese encephalytis is a good one to get as well.

I got twinrix done in Canada. My doctor gave the prescription and her nurse administered the shot. But time is critical. I had one shot right away and then another a month later. Finally, the last one is 6 months to a year later. Maybe cost around a hundred bucks for each one. Twinrix protects against Hep A and B. Don't know if they do it the same way here though it might be cheaper. I got some others from the VOA (Victorian order of Nurses), but opted not to get the Jap Enc vaccine. I'd prob need to get a Polio booster and others depending on where I travel to in Asia. It would be good to know where to go here for those things.

I was told the twinrix vaccine is good for 20 years or so. As another poster said, the food sharing here is common so getting hep A and B vaccines is good.
