I'm a UK citizen but I will be spending the summer in Canada with my girlfriend before we come back to Korea in September. Does anyone know if I will be able to get my visa in Canada if I prepare my documents before I leave? |

1st E2= no.
Subsequent E2 = no problem.

Just making sure here.... Are visa runs to Japan still legit? I've had an e2 before.
Has anyone done one recently? |

Just to follow up on this:
I went to the Toronto consulate today after having my issuance number confirmed in Korea and was told at the desk that they could not issue my visa in Canada as I was only on a visitor stamp and would need to be on student visa/permanent resident status.
The consulate website currently states this:
New Policy (Effective MAR 31, 2011)
1. E2 visa applicants can apply their visa at the consulate in either their own country or any other countries.
2. No interview is required unless requested
I pointed this out at the desk and the lady admitted that it was a mistake and that she'd personally written that on the site, but there was nothing she could do. After begging her and giving her our sob story about driving 3 hours to get there and the possibility of us losing our job offer if we can't get it issued in Toronto, she took my documents and said she will ask her supervisor to make an exception this one time. I'll find out tomorrow.
So if you do happen to be applying for your visa in a foreign country, it might not be as simple as you think. Even if the website states it in black and white. |

Yeah, I just applied in China and they didn't want to do it. After a lengthy wait while she was "speaking with my superior", she agreed to do it.
What the big deal is, I'll never figure out. Got a damn visa # already, all they have to do is put it in the passport. |

Weird stuff. I got my E2 in Australia (not my 1st E2) a few years ago. I'm American. No issues whatsoever. |

Well, they just called and they're going to do it. She made it sound like she was doing me the world's biggest favour but it says it on the website...
Anyway, she said they are going to change the website to explain it properly in the future. Who knows? |

My understanding is that there was a waiver if you were living there, i.e. going to school or something, if that might make a difference. |

Nope, just traveling through, staying with my in-laws, before they became my in-laws. I was on a tourist visa. |

Reassuring to see the 'official' policy doesn't put up barriers for hopefuls who are already expats. Problem with 'official' stuff is that it never seems to stand up in real life.
Logistically it would be possible for me to get to London for visa purposes, but the COST. I shudder to think. You'll see my location on the left --- surely considering EU residency rights, it shouldn't be a problem to get it here.

The website has now changed:
New Policy (Effective MAR 31, 2011)
1. E2 visa applicants can apply their visa at the consulate in either their own country or any other countries.
2. If non Canadian, you need to have legal status in Canada (e.g. working permit, student permit, or PR card)
3. No interview is required unless requested

Wouldn't #2 negate #1 if you are a tourist? |

Exactly. That's why they originally said they couldn't do mine. |
