ended up installing this and having a couple of minor problems.

-I have the Ultimate K version so everything was in Korean. Had to look at an English walkthrough for the install process.
-took some time to fumble around and find/install the English language pack.

working fine now though.

Also check if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit processor and make sure to install the correct version of win7. I upgraded my Vista to 32-bit win7 on a 64-bit system. I had some issues (it would sometimes not refresh the screen, usb ports flaked out, HDMI didn't work). I did a fresh install with 64-bit win7 and the system not only performs better but all issues have been stamped out completely, and it had no issues locating any of my drivers. I'm not sure if it was the upgrade install that caused the issues or the version of windows. Either way, you'll be kicking yourself if you go 32-bit on a 64-bit capable cpu. Might as well do that now Smile

64-bit is better, but you shouldn't have compatibility problems running 32-bit on a 64-bit machine, just a performance hit.

I've been thinking of buying a new one, but thought I'd try this as a possible stop gap.

the word "stopgap" makes me think you're trying to solve a problem you're having with the laptop you have. Windows 7 won't solve any problems. It won't make you machine faster - more likely slower - as developers never clear away code but add more bloat. Windows 7 takes a lot more memory than XP or Vista.

If you have OS config issues, then sure go ahead and blow it all away and the new install will make it nice and pretty again. If you have just the slows, you'll be disappointed.
