http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/dailyweekly/2011/05/korean_air_refuses_to_let_dyin.php
Crystal Kim's daughter says she just wanted to take her dying mom to Korea for Mother's Day. But despite having two doctor's notes explaining that her mom's terminal breast cancer wouldn't pose a problem in transit, Korean Air still wouldn't let the woman board a flight at Sea-Tac.
KING-5 reports that when Crystal Kim and her daughter Mimi showed up at Sea-Tac over the weekend, they were told by Korean Air agents that Crystal looked too frail and weak to fly.
The agents said she would need a doctor's note in order to board. The Kims in fact already had a doctor's note saying the flight wouldn't be a problem for her, but when they showed it to the agents, they apparently said she'd need another note.
So the pair went back to Group Health to get another note.
But even when the pair returned with the additional letter, the KA agents still wouldn't let her board.
Since then, Korean Air employees have been ducking questions. They apparently even called the police when reporters showed up at the airport to interview the Kims.
No one from the company has responded to questions about why they denied the woman boarding.
Never one to miss an opportunity to make sure its competitors look like heartless bastards, Delta Air Lines on Monday stepped up and said they would fly the woman to Korea. |

they over charge, and the flights are not worth it. |

Obviously, the Kims did not know about Korea Air's new policy of documents requiring notarization and apostille. It's the Kim's fault for not doing their homework on what is required to enter korea..... |

This is why I fly Delta. Both ways they've been absolutely great to me- Business class upgrades, great attendants, not taking the standard fly near NK airspace route that sometimes happens.
Delta does Detroit and DTW proud. |

Except Korean Air is not really an arm's length competitor of Delta's, but rather a member of SkyTeam along with Delta. |
@SteelRails
Whenever I try to buy a Delta ticket from JFK-ICN, it is "code-shared" with Korean Air. Can't recall seeing them having a booth at ICN either... |

I was on a Delta flight and we were an hour away from landing in Narita when a passenger feinted (and woke up). The pilot turned the plane around to land at a strip 30 minutes away (back to the north). Paramedics treated the woman and took off the plane and to a hospital, then the plane was serviced and we went back on our way to Narita. The woman might have even preferred to get on to Narita (maybe her destination) only an hour away, rather than get dumped at a hospital somewhere in north Japan, in order to save 30 minutes.
Anyway, of course the persons life and health is most important, so I am sure the Delta pilot made the correct choice. The point is that at sick person on an airplane leads to some really drastic actions being taken and I can see why the captain and crew may not want to have a frail, dieing person on the plane. It is really serious when someone health is at risk while on a flight. |

Before Delta and NWA merged, I really didn't care for NorthWorst; however, the service did seem to improve since the merger. When I returned to Korea this past winter, I had to change my flight to Incheon, instead of Busan, and was code-shared on a KoreanAir flight; it was o.k. |

Maybe if they had been in First Class, then it would have been ok. Like an E-1 Visa. |

Sad story and bad move by KAL.
As for Delta, they code-share with KAL on many routes so like it was said, this was not some big competitor... |

In my experience, Delta has improved in the last few years in terms of service, etc. However, I forgot what a dirty bathroom looked like until I flew with Delta last month.
Oh, and not to mention another Delta flight last month that malfunctioned in the air! Nothing like your plane's intruments not responding at 33,000 feet! But we made it to the ground safely, so I guess you could say Delta has good pilots. I'd fly Delta again. |

You realize of course that typically the navigator punches in a destination and the pilot hits a takeoff button and they pretty much play with themselves/sleep during the flight, right? It's computer-controlled from take-off to landing.
Losing instruments IS a concern, I'll give you that, but that doesn't mean that a human was actually flying the plane. |

I would avoid Korean airlines if at all possible. Let me reiterate my sad story about my treatment with Korean airlines. I was getting a boarding pass on my way out of Korea to another destination and didn't have an ongoing ticket. I was refused a boarding pass untill I bought an ongoing ticket and given some bull excuse by the desk worker. So I had to shell out 200 US dollars from my account for a pricey ongoing Singapore airlines ticket. I had other things to do also at the moment and it severely disrupted remembering those things I needed to do and cost me a hundred more dollars in addition to Singapore airlines ticket that I had to buy.
Every other airline makes you sign a waiver that you understand that some of these countries require ongoing passage etc. etc. I have never been denied entry into any country on account of not having one. Few westerners ever are. Anyhow if this is there service then I would avoid them. |
