Has anyone ever seen Maximuscle Cyclone protein powder on sale? On base, anywhere? I really want to get back on it again. It's way beyond the GNC stuff, but unfortunately it's British, so it's hard to find.

*Man, there should be a sticky about this.

Okay man, as far as protein and any other supplement mass119.com is going to be your best bet. It's a Korean company that buys the supplements in huge bulk and stocks them in Korea. That way when you order, it takes 2 days to get to you and delivery is only 10,000won. The only problem is they don't have a huge selection. So you'll have to compromise. I just checked and they don't have that brand you're talking about (and I've never heard of it and I've been in this scene for years.) But they do carry Optimum and Elite Dymatized and those are the top two proteins in the market. But they also carry other notable brands like BSN and Gaspari Nutrition.

You could order from bodybuilding.com but I will discourage this. For one, their international shipping is unreal. Yes they have a huge selection and carry practically every supplement known to man, but you'll have a 65,000 or 80,000 won delivery charge to fly it over. And there's the issue with customs. Current Korean customs say you can only get 6 bottles of anything in one order. That could be 6 of one thing or 6 individual things. Which wouldn't be so bad, except customs is much like immigration and depending on the officer checking that box, he may decide to flag even one or two bottles. That takes calling customs and giving them permission to open you box, check out the contents, and pay a customs fee if they choose to levy it. So from the time you order to the time it gets to ICN is about 10 days. I can take another week or two to get out of customs. So you could very well order something and not get it for a month. But if it's something you absolutely can't live without and can't get through mass119.com and you're willing to leap through all the hoops with customs, then order from abroad.

Last note. Do not buy Korean brand supplements. There are local brands made to look like foreign brands. You can tell by looking at the nutrition labels on the bottles. If it was made abroad, it will be in English. If it was made in Korea, it will be in Korean. The thing is, the supplement industry is far more heavily regulated in Korea than it is back home (most country have more gov't regulation than America does when it comes to supplements.) So, almost every supplement made in Korea is cut down with rice flour. The tub will be the same size. It may even cost the same. But with an American brand you get 25g of protein per serving, the Korean brand you'll only get 8g or 10g. Same goes for creatine, gleutamine, pre/post workout shakes, recovery drinks, and fat burners.

There, I hope that answers you question a long with any other question someone might have about this.

Wow thanks for the awesome post. This should be a sticky, most useful post I've read on supplementation in Korea. Thanks!

hey seongdong guy, which part of seongdong are you in?

anyway, i used to use speedns.co.kr which is pretty much the same as mass119.com but i recently checked out iherb.com and it seems to be superior to both those companies since iherb has more products.

I think iherb and mass119 are for different markets. Yeah, they share some of the same product, but mass119 is more of a traditional bodybuilding/weightlifting/athlete supplement store. iherb is more for the "granola" crowd. Nothing wrong with that. They just carry more vitamins and extracts and things like that. I just checked them out and it looks like they have more product, but they don't carry any of the big name brands we're used to in the West. And it looks like what supplements they have might be Korean brands, thus inferior quality.

I haven't heard of speedins though, I'll check it out.

Actually, iherb.com has all of the brands that you mentioned in your previous post i.e. whey optimum and elite dymatized. You just have to use the search function Smile I have been using them for awhile and the price is the best you can get in Korea. Shipping usually takes about 5 days if you use the tracking option.

this seems like a pretty good thread, so i have a question. i actually have never used any supplements before. Im a good sized guy (5'10'' 180) but i still have some fat that i want to get rid of. what do you guys recommend? i dont have any problems building muscle, and i eat plenty of lean meat and the right foods for my body, BUT is there any products that you recommend to get more defined/cut? and i know you might say exercise/run more but i do run 5 times a week and do muay thai, im just trying to see if there is something that could help.

i tried lipid 6 before but i returned it after a week. it had my heart racing VERY fast all the time and it caused discomfort.

any suggestions would be helpful. thanks!

Man, everybody's body works differently when storing fat. There's no single answer or product. Sure, some thing are universal like eat better exercise more. And you seem to be already doing that.

But one thing I'll note. You said you do muay thai, so do I. It's great and I love it. But mt doesn't lend itself to creating a strong body. Look at Thai fighters and white people who train like they do. They're all thin as rails with whatever muscle they have slowly being eaten away. MT is in my mind, an excessive cardio sport. Much like marathon running. So training frequently can put your body into panic mode and make it try to store as much fat as possible.

I think you should try getting a good muscle building and strength training routine down, tweak your diet to an anabolic model, and get a good quality protein shake. Anabolic diets are high protein and high fat (good fats) and low carbs. Not to be confused with Atkins style low carb diets. Anabolic diet trick your body into burning fat as it's main fuel source rather than carbs. To get it to that point though, you have to have a good amount of muscle on your body. So you need to lift more weights. I know it seems odd to get big and strong to lose fat, but that works. Muscle is an active tissue and burns fat to live. The more muscle you have, the more fat it eats and over longer periods of time. So for people that have lots of muscle, cardio maybe 3 times a week is all they need to keep their body fat down way low and keep that cut up/defined look.

Don't ignore the weights, and maybe ease off the MT a bit. I've found if you find a body type you like, you have to look at people that train for that body type. So if I wanted to look skinny as a rail with little muscle mass, but the lungs to let me run across the ocean, then I look at MT and marathon training. But I prefer the basketball player/fitness model look which requires a bit more muscle to look cut up.

i would not waste money on supplements to help you lose weight. it's a waste of money. the only supps you need are protein and a multi vitamin. but, having a high protein diet does help increase metabolism.

where do you train muay thai at btw?

yeah i see them all the time skinny dudes EXCEPT the ones who are bigger but have no definition either lol. I actually do more than just the muay thai, i would NOT wanna get that small, i lift weights quite often (every other day) so that i can still build muscle, and eat enough protein (i believe its like 3 grams for every pound you weigh or something similar) but i dont over load on it. i love my veggies too. but i was just trying to see if their was something else that could help but yeah i figure the best way would be just work out and do it correctly, and you confirmed that as well. lol appreciate it.

funny story is when i first started TKD i lost like tons of weight and actually got that skinny body syndrome, but like i felt i had small muscles if any lol. i guess it really depends, in my gym i actually train but also spend time on weight lifting and stretching. anyways thanks again!

yeah i agree dude. i was just trying to see if their was something i was missing but i never really liked relying on supplements and the such. i think maybe a multi vitamin would help, but i do eat a lot of fruits and veggies so too much would just be wasted lol

i train at a gym in suwon near yong tong. nice small place but with all the amenities EXCEPT a ring, i would have like to have that there lol but beggers cant be choosers

Hey guys,

Have any of you seen the protein available in Costco? Do you know the concentration of it/if it's any good? I'm guessing it isn't but maybe one of you know for sure...?

Costco has Joe Weider brand protein powder. It's generally not considered a good quality protein. Weider nutrition is based in Canada, and as I stated above, every other country has much stricter regulations on supplements. I think the way they derive protein from it's source is different. I think it might come from plant protein instead of whey which is egg white protein.

Now, that may be what you're looking for, but I think for the price you'll pay at Costco for it, you can get a much better quality product online.

Oh, and I take back everything I said about iherb.com. That place looks amazing. I have a checkout cart full of things ready to go!

your issue here is most likely your diet. if you wanna have that ripped look it's 90% diet.

Here's what I do to get that ripped look.

1. eat 5 or 6 small meals a day instead of 3 larger ones. (350-450 calories per meal

2. cut all process foods from your diet

3. cut all processed carbs from your diet (white rice, bread, pasta, sugar, white potatoes, etc)

4. replace processed carbs with whole carbs (brown rice, oatmeal, yams, sweet potato)

5. go heavy on lean proteins for every meal (lean beef, chicken breat, lean fish, egg whites)

6. eat a cup of veggies with every meal

7. eat most of your carbs early in the day and cut them out completely after 5 pm

8. get your fats from healthy sources (olive oil, nuts, avocado) but don't over do it here because they are packed with calories

9. snack on fruits if you need to but don't over do it here either

10. only eat dairy products that are fat free or very low in fat (skim milk, NO CHEESE EVER)

11. Choose one day a week as a cheat day. On this day you can eat whatever you want...of course portion sizes need to be within reason.

If you follow this meal plan you won't even need cardio to shed the extra body fat. It will fall off naturally and at about a pound a week. Within 2 to 3 months you will look ripped.
