I have a wild baby bird that fell out of its nest yesterday. It was impossible to find the nest to put it back so I took it home. I have been hand feeding it baby bird food and trying to keep it warm but I know it needs proper care from an expert. I can't find anywhere in my town to take it. Are there any vets or veterinary schools in Seoul that might take it?

So exactly what reason did you see fit to 'save' a wild baby bird? You've essentially doomed it to a life of domestication. The wild is a world of survival of the fittest and you aren't helping it by helping it.

I can see you had good intentions, but wild animals are best left alone.

I don't know exactly where (I'll ask my friend and PM you later,) but there's a vet in Itaewon that deals with exotics. My friend's friend works there and used to give her the powdered monthly no-worm medicine for my pet rats.

I'd choose being a pet to a kind and warm-hearted owner such as yourself over dying. The bird is hardly doomed.

I can see where you are coming from, but I don't agree with this premise when it comes to birds.

I have raised dozens of wild baby birds over the years, and they all easily return to the wild...dishearteningly so...some come back once or twice...but never stay.

Feed them till they can fly...then say goodbye.

It doesn't take an expert to raise a baby bird..but it does take time.
Once you start...you kind of have to make the commitment to keep this up till it can fly...then it will do just that...and you probably will never see it again.

Depending on the bird...this can take up to a month.
In the learning to fly process...they tend to shit...a lot...and just about everywhere you don't want them to....really hard to litter train a bird. Wink

Anyway, best of luck with the life you saved up to this point.

Okay, I spoke to my mom. She rescued a baby sparrow when I was really young, and told me this:

You don't need to take it to a vet. Just feed it until it can fly. You might want to make sure it doesn't have mites, though. Keep its box lined with white cloth. You'd see the mites on the cloth if it has any. This is for your protection, not the bird's.

Thanks everyone! The bird seems to be eating, pooping, and flopping around nicely. I estimate he fell somewhere between 10-20 feet to the sidewalk, so I'm amazed he's doing this well. He seems to be content to sleep in a box lined with tissue and covered with pieces of an old washcloth. I got powdered baby bird formula from the pet store and have been feeding him with a syringe from the pharmacy. No sign of mites, so that's a good thing. I guess all I can do now is just continue what I'm doing and wait and see what happens. My intent is to help him learn to fly, then release him into the wild once instinct has taken over and he can fly and eat on his own. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Aw, thanks guys. Unfortunately, little Alexander the Great died today. I was giving him his 3rd feeding and he was acting a little funny. Then he just died. I have no way of knowing what he died from. I was becoming concerned about a little place sticking up on his back that looked like it might be a broken bone. It's entirely possible he had internal injuries from such a long fall. I really hope it was nothing I did. Anyway, thanks to all those who offered encouragement. R.I.P Alexander the Great.

I'm sure Alexander found comfort in your care. He left with the knowledge that he was loved.
