My public school is telling me I need to open up an EZ1 Bank acct wtih KEB so that my severance money can get sent from my school to this KEB EZ account, and then sent from there to my U.S. account, 2 days later... Anyone else done it this way?? Seems like typical korean busy work at hand... I can see me getting bogus fee's doing it this route! |

Well, if the EZ1 is a foreign remittance account, it might be a good idea to open one anyway, and give that account information to the pension office, too.
I know I actually have trouble sending money from my current account to the US -- it has to go through a bank in Germany (yeah, an additional fee). I intend to set up a foreign remittance account with another bank soon myself, just to make things easier....
Edit: My school opened an account for me with KB, which is where I am having the transfer problems -- I USED TO have an account with KEB, and I never had a problem...and I'll be opening a KEB foreign remittance account soon (have just been sitting on my cash here, waiting for the exchange rate to improve even further (come on 1000! Or at least 1025!)).
Opening an account at KEB for ease of transfer sounds legit to me. |
