I want to be hired in early August, but I am just now getting paperwork together to send off for my CRC and then I need to get it and a copy of my degree notarized and apostilled. Is it too late to expect them back by then? I already have my passport.

I'm leaving a full-time middle school teaching position for South Korea...

Thanks

I think the biggest question will be what country do you live in?

It took us over 3 months to get our CBC from the FBI and then get it apostilled by the Department of State. I know that other people have reported shorter times, but I think on average that's what you can expect.

You might want to have a back-up plan in case August doesn't work out.

Once you have your documents in hand you should be able to get a job pretty quickly, so it might be the difference between early August and early September, but you'll probably be okay, you're just going to miss the cutoff for public schools.

If you rush the post, leave a little note that politely states why you need it done quickly, and send an envelope with prepaid postage, you might be able to shave a week or two on the time. I got mine in 8 weeks. But I have not gotten it apostilled yet.

Is 'early august' set in stone for you?

If you were to send it off today you would probably have the check apostilled (if you went for the federal apostille and not the 'may not work' state-level one, then you'd probably be waiting until mid-July at best. The state level apostille is still accepted, apparently, despite conflicting reports that they won't take it anymore.

I sent everything off and paid $20 to have it there by Wednesday (to the CJIS division of the FBI). I included the fingerprint cards, the application for the CRC, the request to have it Federal apostilled, my contact info., and the $18 money order. Is that everything? Sure hope so. Would hate to miss any opportunities for employment, especially since my current job is making me miserable. I'll have to endure it another year if this doesn't pan out.

Thanks for the replies. Now to get my degree notarized and sent off for the apostille...

I am no expert, but I am fairly certain that getting apostille is an entirely separate process. As in, you get the CBC back and then you send that off to be apostilled through the Fed or your state.

That's correct. But you need to request to have it authenticated (signature and seal) otherwise you can't have it apostilled at the federal level.

Right, sorry. I guess I should have clarified better. I just meant to say that there is one more step with the FBI CBC after a person receives it. Sorry for the confusion. ^^;

Did you include a letter asking for it to be authenticated (signed and stamped)?

Yes, I did this. So, when I get the CRC back, I still have to get it apostilled at the federal level? How long does that usually take? Getting all of this done by August is looking like a problem....
