yes its called TOEIC in my school. The parents are really hot on it. We had a class where we weren't teaching it and the parents complained. Most of the older students have learned ir or are presently learning it. I'm with you its boring as hell |

Short dictation exercises can be a very effective teaching method.
Dictations of key words and phrases can help students practice listening skills as well as helps them make the connection between spoken sounds and written language.
But, a whole class of this? Yikes.........
Like everything else in Korea, they always seem to turn a good thing into monotony and drudgery. |

When I first arrived in Korea, the director had this great idea how to use the new white face. Every Monday, I had to teach a class of 30 students pronounciation. These classes were also free to the students as a way to supplement their classes. It amounted to dictation lessons for the students. The class went from 40 students to 20 to... well you get the picture. |

Yep,
50 mins is too long.
Though 5 sentences or so of dictation now and then can show listening, spelling and writing skills. |
