^ yeah sure it's possible to get what you want in Yongsan if you do your research and do the legwork.

I think it's just easier to do it online.

You're also correct that Yongsan dealers will always try to sell you the mainstream item that they have in stock rather than send you where you might get the item you want. Not a big sin though. Their problem is that they lazily only bother to stock mainstream models.

The Yongsan warehouses bulk-buy thousands of what they think will be the mainstream product. Many Koreans like Canon so they'll stock millions of mid-range Canon cameras and not bother with niche, high-end camera brands or models. Only the occasional vendor here and there who has a rep among enthusiasts will bother to get the good stuff in.

Online though, you can browse every camera, or whatever, from the cheapest to the most expensive and see the prices too.

Yep, I tried o buy a friend a pentax or a sony DSLR.....vendors starting suggesting I was a moron for not buying their canon

They're kinda right though. Considering that Canon and Nikon control 90% of the DSLR market, have a much larger support base, and are generally proven and reliable products, the advice they were giving was sound. As a professional photographer, I've never seen any of my colleagues use a DSLR that wasn't a Canon or Nikon. Maybe a Leica, but that's not a DSLR anyway.

I've never had a problem with the vendors at Yongsan (camera vendors anyway)...they're pretty honest guys if you do your research beforehand and know what you want. Otherwise, like any other salesperson, they'll try and get you to buy stuff that you don't want/need. Plus, if you're good at it, you can pit the vendors against each other and come out on top.

And if you don't like what they're doing, just walk away. There are plenty of other people who are willing to help you.
