Looking for something to do friday night and fancy doing something different from standard hedonism, so pretending to be sophisticated. But i live in gwangju, so no idea where to look.

A Korean website is okay since im going with a korean friend (platonic, not a date - she alas is as clueless as i am though). Just looking for a culture listings if by an amazing chance there happens to be one out there or nice ideas of places to hit up. Some decent jazz would be fun too, but not soupy jazz though, i hate that stuff. Hell, even a gallery event might be okay if its late

The top spot for classical music/recitals is the Sejong Art Center.
They have an informative English section on their website and concerts/recitals are almost daily. Some of them charge as little as 10,000won for a ticket.

Also, the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts theater downtown near city hall also holds classical as well as contemporary and varied performances.

Check out the Art street located in DongGu GoongDong (between the DongBu police station and Joongangro)
It's actually the Gwangju equivalent to Seoul's DaeHakRo and Busan's Piff street. Decent stuff to do on Friday nights but the street really comes alive on Saturdays where they block off the traffic and make it a true Art Street.
There's also the Gwangju Cultural Arts Center (광주문화예술회관)

They have schedules and listings for classical music and other plays etc

ah, im not looking for gwangju stuff, but thanks anyway Im off to seoul tomorrow and want to just hang out with my mate but not do the usual twentysomething thing and hit up hongdae or the like (which will be saturday night after a day at tiger world).

Its also looking like i'm probably out of luck though, theres no late night performances which im going to need since my train wont pull in until 10.30

all the shows i have seen there have been brilliant.......the whole place is world class.....
