I came across this post in another thread recommending the usage of multiple recruiters. However, I've read many times that doing so can possibly lead to my applications being disqualified... Or am I confusing something?

I'm working with Footprints right now. I'm trying both GEPIK and EPIK. I know I'm very late to the process right now for Fall, so I'm still waiting for more information from them.

Should I try working with another recruiter such as Korvia as well?

I'm just worried about multiple applications and the chance of disqualification.

I would greatly appreciate any sort of help!

Edit: I also can't seem to find any GEPIK applications unless they are tied to a recruiter. Are there any official GEPIK applications available?

This is the post I am referring to:

Chris.Quigley wrote:
Your recruiter doesn't contact schools and offer you as a potential teacher. Schools go to the recruiter and the recruiter offers you only those positions.

What this means is that if I am a recruiter who deals only with schools in Busan, I will tell you "Oh... these days no jobs in Seoul, only Busan, Busan good place. Busan only 35 minutes away from Seoul. This school #1. They good to you. 1 million won a lot of money these days. You not qualified to work for more than 1 million won. You pay airfare, this normal in Korea."

The truth is:

1.) There are lots of jobs in Seoul
2.) They are low-balling you on the wages
3.) The school probably isn't very good, and they will not treat you very well.
4.) They are not offering you the standard contract
5.) Seoul is 4 hours away.

Solution: Use multiple recruiters! You pick the best job!

Do Not Tell Them That You Are Using Multiple Recruiters

edit: I should add that getting a job outside Seoul is easier... But only because 75% of the population lives outside Seoul and 90% of teachers would rather work in Seoul.

I think the confusion is that you're wanting to apply to public school, so by using two recruiters you'll actually just submitting two identical applications to the same agency (GEPIK or EPIK). This may lead to having your application disqualified, so I would stick with the one agency you trust the most and only submit through them. You're right, there is a way to apply directly on the GEPIK website, but having a recruiter review your paperwork first is free for you, and probably helpful since there are a lot of requirements.

If you were looking for work in a hagwon (which you may want to look into encase you don't get into public school) having two recruiters is great because they'll be looking at different school, different locations, and will have different contacts, etc. Basically it increases you chance of having multiple offers and thus being able to choose the job that is best for you.

Best of Luck!

Thank you! It all makes sense now.

I think you misunderstood me. Embarassed I was asking if there was a GEPIK application that can be sent directly to GEPIK itself, and not by means of a recruiter. All the applications I've found ask you to send them to the recruiter's address, like Korvia or EZEnglish, etc.

I found the official site where I can apply directly to GEPIK, but I don't think it's functioning correctly. I can't seem to choose the year from the drop down menu...

Hopefully Footprints will help me with this issue...

There is nothing wrong with using multiple recruiters. It seems like specific schools or programs only work with certain recruiters, so working with more can one can maximize your chances of finding a position that fits with you.

As far as EPIK applications go, there are several programs, Ulsan MOE comes to mind, that use the same application, but do not go through the same channels. I know UMOE hires both through their own program and through EPIK. What other posters are referring to, that recruiters will tell you, is that you should not apply to the same program or position through more than one recruiter as the applications will automatically be tossed out. But is it perfectly ok, in fact I think it is better, to go through more than one recruiter if you are looking for a public school position. Just be sure that you are clear with what you do/don't want to apply for so that you don't get offered positions that you have already applied for with another recruiter.

It is true that you may be a bit late for EPIK, depending upon when all of your documents get submitted, but you are by no means out of luck when it comes to applying for a public school position. Keep your eyes peeled for positions listed on Dave's and your recruiter(s)' boards for individual public school positions or other programs since they will be posted throughout the summer. Once you have all of your documents in order, your possibilities open up a lot.

For the GEPIK application, you do have to work with a recruiter since the program works differently than EPIK from what I have heard. With EPIK, your application gets submitted then you get approved by specific MOEs to work in that area and then assigned to a school. For GEPIK, you submit an application then you talk to specific schools about the positions they have available. You need a recruiter to work as an intermediary between you and the school to help facilitate introductions and application materials.

I'm working on the same process now, but I'm a bit head of you. If you have any questions about what happens next or what it is like to work with a recruiter, specifically Footprints, PM me and I would be happy to help!

Best of Luck!
