Hi am wondering if anyone could suggest an on-line Masters degree in Education, TEFL Masters would be good. |

Just finished mine through the University of Missouri. Reasonably priced, on-line support was top-notch. Director of the program is moving on, but most of the professors will still be there. I would highly recommend the program.

There are lots of decent MATESOL/applied linguistics/M.Ed programs out there.
It really depends on where you are from unless you are American (then everyone, including US universities) will charge you through the nose).
The rates for a decent MA program (distance) are usually different depending on where you are considered to be resident (non-resident students pay significantly more in most places).]

I remembered his online TESOL (or Education?) program. It was UMass.
Here's Penn State, but not MATESOL from what I can see:

Prediction:
"Online MAs are crap"
"No dissertation? Its crap"
I suggest using the search function; there was a thread which asked the same question not long ago, complete with all of the requisite insecurity, flag-waving, belittling and posturing. |

Online degrees are certainly accepted by my university.
There is a very vocal minority of people who are very upset about the online thing and how it has given many more the opportunity to receive a degree equivalent to theirs in the job market. They like to throw out generalities about what they think schools will accept and what they won't, but the fact is that Korea has been immersed in online education for nearly a decade at all levels. Some foreigners at some of Korea's best universities try to get onto hiring committees and lampoon certain candidates who apply at their schools (as I've heard from more than one source). It's all very petty and selfish.
The next step these people take is to attempt to rank MA's based on criteria they pull out of their ass, showing a total lack of understanding of how education has changed since they did their degree (back when everything was books and research combined into a paper few ever read, care to read, or would find remotely useful to the educational community).
This is how some snide folks with MA's (most of whom have never actually published) deal with the ever-encroaching fact that Korean schools are more interested in hiring the younger, more attractive MA holders who can relate to and capture student interest more readily. This, and the fact that Ph.D's are being hired for their positions. These MA's are becoming overpaid dinosaurs who can't hold their own in a fight with the incoming Ph.D's, so they do their best to belittle the online MA's as crap while they secretly sweat over every contract renewal, praying that they won't get axed.
Sad fact is, these individuals are slowly but surely finding themselves pushed into unigowns or removing themselves from the university market entirely when they won't accept a job outside of their favorite area, or for less money than what they used to have.
There is a lot of bitterness out there.

This will not turn into ANOTHER debate on the quality of an on-line degree. This thread will be monitored closely and those that decide to pursue this off-topic discussion will find their posting ability disappear.

Birmingham's program is world-class, as is their linguistics department. Several of my colleagues have done or are doing their program, and report that it is much more research-based than others, which may be an advantage if you're thinking of going on to do your doctorate in the future.
I did my master's through Shenandoah University's MSEd-TESOL program, and loved the blend of taught and research components. It fit my learning style, while still allowing me enough opportunities to perform research to get published and get into the doctoral program in which I'm now a candidate.
Do your research on both google and this site and you should be able to find a quality program for around 12K USD. There are quality opportunities in TESOL as well as Translation Studies (Birmingham), Literary Linguistics (Nottingham), and others. So much learning, so little time! Get started ASAP!
