As dirty as Delta bathroom's are, I had full faith in the pilots of that potentially 'doomed' flight.
The passengers probably wouldn't have known anything was wrong, but the pilot came on and explained it like this: "Folks, we're at 33,000 feet and we have a little problem. The throttle isn't responding and we're going to have to shut down an engine now. Dont' worry, we've done this before in a simulator at 33,000 feet. Don't be alarmed when you see the fire trucks and ambulances on the ground when we arrive--it's just precaution. If anything, now's a good time for the throttle to go, as it would have been critical if we were on our take-off or the ascent."
Keep in mind it was pouring down rain and we were bouncing around like crazy. Not the best flight I've ever taken. Plus, you should have seen everyone's eyes after the captain announced what was going on. Everyone had these huge eyes with fear.
I scored a free shot of vodka out of it, thanks to a really nice flight attendant.
Like I said, I had full faith that the pilots were trained and knew how to best resolve the situation and get everyone down safely. I would fly Delta again for this, even if they do tend to have stinky bathrooms. |
