Pathetic comment! You only wish you could have a beautiful wife like mine, but instead you are stuck with worthless leftovers. |

So, why does your wife feel that the word ORIENTAL is insulting? What's the reason? |
You HEARD a SOME Asians don't like to be called Asian so you assume that applies to the majority.
Tell you what Jefferson, I heard that some people don't believe in the moon landings. And I also heard that some people think the Holocaust was a conspiracy. I don't understand why they think that. What's the reason? Can you explain it to me?
 |
Getting desperate as there was no one today you could bark at? Where did I say "majority"? Idiot. Some Asians told me that Asians don't like the word "Asians". |

I wonder if this is the perception of most Koreans when the term "foreigner" is used. |
Ask them.
Ask the people around you - when you hear the term 'foreigner', what do you think of? |
I was talking with a bunch of co-workers about the Nambu district area. I mentioned that area is supposed to have the largest % of foreigners in Korea. One of the men turned to me and said, "Not foreigners, Chinese." That's when I said, "Chinese are foreigners in Korea, too." |

What's wrong with calling Asians "Asians" or "Oriental"? I heard many times that they don't like it. To be honest, I can't understand why. Can anyone explain, please? |
He said asians may be getting tired of being called CHINESE or ORIENTAL not being called asian...
Read too fast there Jefferson?
As for Oriental, it is a term that is sometimes loaded with negative meaning. My wife is Korean and finds being called oriental insulting.
She gets called Chinese all the time back here in Canada and sometimes to a ridiculous degree along the lines of :
"You are Chinese right?"
"Actually I am Korean"
"Oh cool, so you speak Chinese"
She kind of gave up on that one as she feels she cannot win this battle, some people will just not bother. |
I know what he said, Patrick. But I also heard that they don't like being called "Asians" and that's why I asked. No need to attack now. Thanks for you response, anyway.
So, why does your wife feel that the word ORIENTAL is insulting? What's the reason? |
Oriental is considered loaded with meaning taken from past history (mainly colonial) and prejudice (mainly towards asian immigrants).
I was not attacking you either Jefferson. I honestly though you may have read too fast. |

Haven't had time to read this all, but all crime is a problem.
However if I was the editor of a large Korean daily newspaper, maybe my efforts would be better spent exposing the corruption that happens on a daily basis rather than beating up a non story about some Asian gangs.
The recent corruption/incompetence shown at the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has the potential to cause a housing price collapse, which would cause a huge number of people to lose their life savings, but no the FSS was too busy producing stupid booklets and rules for foreigners wanting to operate basic banking services in this country.
Rule of law is a basic necessity for people everywhere.
Chosun take note of stones, glass and houses.
Rant over!

Yeah, and while we're at it let's bring back Colored and Negro. Then we can go kick a dog and chop down a tree for no reason. Not really a political philosophy, more just being a jerk for no reason.
So yeah, go put your money where your mouth is and stroll up to some brothers and call them Negro or Colored. Otherwise you are just all talk.
And since we are casting aside manners and respect. I expect now to never see you complaining about a lack of manners and respect from Koreans to you. Yeah, no more of that cross-cultural politeness. They can just treat you how they feel. Sorry your feelings are so hurt because some kids ran up to you and said "Hello!". Get out the kleenex for the boohoo fest about having to spend 3 hours at the hospital for a routine health check because of a lack of PCness regarding immigrants.
It's fine to tell other people not to whine and moan. Just don't also be one of them.

Steel, somehow I doubt West Coast Tatterdemalion will accept what you have said. That would require he/she be fair and able to see past his little needs.
Cue his/her next complaint about "rude koreans" not being nice to him because he is a foreigner. |

And guess what? It's not something to get THAT stressed over. 90% of the time people who ask the question, while it sounds insensitive and implies that you are not "a real American", actually are doing it to be friendly and break the ice.
People say Obama's not really black. |
Honestly, it's generally Asian-Americans themselves who perpetuate that more than anyone. |
Maybe it could just be that Asians were tired of being called "Chinese" or Oriental".
I see enough Canadians complaining on here about how much they hate being called an "American" in Korea. Welcome to what its like to be an Asian in a Western country. |
You got that right Charlie! |

Vietnamese wife 23, married to a Korean man 37 living in rural Korea, was found stabbed to death lying on her kitchen floor with her 1 month old son screaming next to her.
the Korean husband stabbed her to death, confessed saying, "we had an argument and she didn't respect me"
but yes, Koreans should be aware of the growing crime among foreigners!

Thats right man!
All these Korean men are homocidal maniacs!!!!
Its the confucius drug of C-dust, it drives them crazy.
Talk about comedy: citing one crime as an example, and using the term KOREANS to rant about how isolated crimes by foreigners do not represent the group.
