Greetings,
I am very disappointed to say that unfortunately Korea automatically dismisses anyone with a psychological disorder from a possible job teaching English in Korea. Although I am a certified teacher who can have witnesses (doctors) verify my sanity and ability to teach, and the fact that pretty much everyone takes an anti-depressant these days, I will not be able to work in Korea due to their stereotyping of all emotional disorders. I will not speak as to the nature of my disability, I do not consider that important, but it has been verified that there is no possibility of getting a visa. Are there any countries out there that more or less have a more progressive policy towards emotional disorders? I am hitting a road-block with almost every country I want to teach in: a medical examination. And although I am willing to deny anything is wrong with me I am concerned that when they do a drug test they will find the prescription medications in my blood sample. I understand the need to insure that students are safe and protected, I fully support background checks and medical evaluations, I just think there needs to be a change in how the world looks at psychological disorders. Please do not use this post to broadcast damaging views of people with psychological/emotional/mental disabilities, I'm simply trying to find a job that I've dreamed about ever since I was 12 and am sadly realizing it may not be a possibility.
thank you...

I just would not mention it on any forms, etc. They do not do that comprehensive of a test that will show antidepressants or anything in that category. And if the do.. well so what. As long as you and your doctors are confident in your abilities to teach and live abroad, then what are you waiting for.

I'm worried that if they find the prescription medication I will be sent home. I will then have to pay for the airfare and the contract will be terminated.
