Most grad degrees require a substantial time commitment. |

Thanks for all your advice I have been looking into the University of Portsmouth. I heard about some sort of DELTA program but I'm not sure if it is a Masters or not.
Does anyone know anything about DELTA it is some sort of TEFL i.e. is it a Masters or what?
Lots of options here too I will look through and again Thanks for all the helpful info |

No, it's a diploma. No one will recognize it as equivalent to an MA. It's more practical than an MA, though, in that it focuses more on classroom teaching. It is useful if you want to work for chains like the British Council, IH, or Bell, or if you want to work as a DoS at such chains. |

Yes, I grasp that particular concept. Knew it going in, and had just as great an - of not a greater - appreciation for it by the time I was done; however, not everybody seems to realize what they're getting into when they commit to such a program, especially when the grad degree in question is worth the paper it is printed on. (Some of the online ones out there aren't.) Birmingham, as I've suggested, seems to be one of the better options out there. |

| I agree: Birmingham is well regarded. I would have signed up with them, but they did not offer any APL for the DELTA, unlike most other UK universities. |

Nice deflection. Also, I commend you for ushering in yet another thread regarding the quality of online degrees.
Apparently Birmingham didn't do much for your writing skills.
I realize it is the low-hanging fruit to attack one's writing, but I do find the irony of your promoting your grad school by throwing written convention to the wind humorous.
On topic: At the rate that Birmingham is gaining online popularity, it may also lose respectability. I suggest doing much research on the topic. Of course, finding a reputable university is necessary, but there are many different programs out there and it is certainly worth writing some emails and gathering information in order to find one that suits you. Any grad schools discussed often and at length here may best be taken as both a recommendation and a warning. |

|
|
I want to bump this thread.
I am currently trying to find a program that is affordable but well-respected.
I have been looking at the Framingham MA (offered in Seoul), which seems affordable and somewhat well-respected. I also like that it only takes 13 months to complete and costs 8,000 dollars.
A lot of the American online programs I have found (I would prefer an American one) cost typically three times that. They have name value, and probably better reputations than Framingham, however, I would not like to break the bank.
I am thinking if I could do one for under 15,000, and if it could be closer to 12-18 months than 24- 36, I would be much more satisfied with that trajectory. I assume these programs are out there. But I can't find any lists organized by price or program length.
Any suggestions? Your help is much appreciated. |

| Completed my MA in Applied Linguistics at Birmingham. It is recognized in Ontario as I have obtained two university positions with it. |
