| Used to use spybot but it stays in your computer memory yet the free version only adds popups to your life. Still had to run it manually. Wasnt impressed overall. |

not sure if ur referring to sth different or not, but i've been using the 1.6.2 version mentioned on the above link for quite a while, and there r no issues with pop-ups...i don't think i've ever had issues with using Spybot S&D and have used it for a long time. it runs at startup with teatimer running in the background, at least for the settings i've chosen. yes, manual updates are necessary. |

| Denver, Spybot didn't impress me. I try to keep memory resident items that add to boot times to a minimum. Even if they are just a teatimer. Spybot had annoying reminders to update, which I hate. Those are the popups. In addition, I found Malwarebytes did a better job overall. That has been my experience. |

again, ur experience seems to b different than mine regarding Spybot S&D. SUPERAntiSpyware Free, which i also use with no major complaints, does have an update reminder upon system restart; S&D does not. i use malwarebytes too...it's fine...u should probably update a bit more frequently with it than u mentioned though. i also prefer avg to avast and other av programs...yes, i'm aware of the false-positives it will come up with with some software cracks, but that doesn't necessarily make it a terrible problem even though some others say, "Ur stoopid! U should b using nod32, kapersky, et.al.ad infinitum." say what they will, i've been virus free for about ten years now. as well, may not b the best out there, but i have an i5 with lots of ram that can easily handle a few extra programs at start-up and running in the background.
all in all though, ur right, it doesn't have to impress u. both you, and i, are neither right nor wrong. |

| I've found that AVG + telling the GF I will be mad if she installs anything without asking has kept my computer free of problems. |
