Do schools regulary have the opportunity to work a lot of overtime, say at least 10 - 20 hours a week?
I figure if so, I should be able to make and save some actual money in the country, even in the first few years.. |

Depends on the type of school. Universities give alot of overtime. Often as much as one wants. Universities also have longer holidays and offer teachers the opportunity to work summer classes or camps for overtime pay ontop of their holiday salary.
Public schools have optional after school programs but there is usually a limit on the amount of extra hours available. Camps are usually included in normal hours.
Hagwons usually have neither overtime nor camps for extra pay.
There are exceptions to all of the above but generally it is correct for most jobs. |

Applying from abroad? Not gonna happen unless you have a PhD and several publications.
Find a hagwan to cut your teeth. They are easy to find.
After you have worked in your sweat-box for a year you will better understand and appreciate a PS position.
After you get a couple years under your belt and have made some connections networking) you may be able to find yourself a university position (even with just a MA). Working in a PS for a couple of years will give you enough desk time to get a good start on a MATESOL program.

The public school overtime isn't optional, read the contract! |

Last month i made 720,000 in overtime. So its's possible but it depends where you teach. I'm in a rural location. |

Some hogwans have no overtime, but most do. Many hogwans have a great deal of overtime. One of the usual complaints on Dave's isn't the lack of hogwan overtime, but the fact that the overtime is required and often the teacher is paid less than the contracted amount or not at all.
It helps to find out about a hogwan's overtime policy and whether or not they actually pay the full amount before you take a hogwan job. If overtime is voluntary and if they pay the full amount and if they don't use overtime hours to fill in hours missed on holidays, then you've found a keeper. |
