Ok so I have decided to look for jobs in Busan.

I need the run down on the different areas of Busan.

My main priorities for where I live in order of importance are as follows:

1. Cheap places to eat / purchase food (close to apt)
2. Close to public transit
3. Gym to workout
4. Parks for basketball & tennis
5. Close to good nightlife
6. Proximity to beach

With these in mind, where would you suggest I look for jobs? What areas should I try to avoid?

Thanks!

On your list of priorites, I suggest including this one.
GETTING PAID.

it's not a given.

getting paid in full or on time can be a whole nuther issue that may not seem like it should be a priority.

But then you get here...

No offense, but your list of demands for location are pretty unrealistic IMO. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you might not end up somewhere great but you're pretty much wanting every box ticked. I'd concentrate more on finding a good job than worrying about whether or not you can shoot hoops at lunch time.

To answer your question: I'd say an area close to either Haeundae or Gwangalli would be exactly what you are looking for. But anywhere on the green line between Seomyeon and Jangsan would provide all you need, giver or take (I've no idea about Tennis or Basketball courts).

Your list if it is strict is unrealistic.

The areas that have your requirements are typically affluent or in demand and hence more costly.

I would concentrate on getting a good job in Busan first and then worry about the actual neighborhood of a city you never have been to.

Busan has excellent public transit and taxis, you can get anywhere pretty fast unless you are really out in the Busan burbs.

For the heck of it, I will discuss each element on your list as I lived in busan for a long, long time...

Quote:
1. Cheap places to eat / purchase food (close to apt)

Define cheap.

Affordable eating is all over Busan if you pick local food and everyday average restaurants.

Every neighborhood has grocery stores and Busan has a few large scale stores like HomePlus or Emart.

Quote:
2. Close to public transit

Extensive subway network, more buses that you can count unless you are stuck in the Busan burbs or in a more distant area...

read the subway map and you can figure out whats far.

Quote:
3. Gym to workout

If the gym is not near your appartment, it can be near your work or in a nearby neighborhood.

Quote:
4. Parks for basketball & tennis

Not that many of those actually but some sports complexes have them.

Quote:
5. Close to good nightlife

Busan has SEVERAL nightlife areas so odds are you will be near one.

Quote:
6. Proximity to beach

Those areas right on the beach are more expensive or in demand. Lots of nearby areas are less expensive. Also, and again, the subway service is excellent and takes you to the beach areas as do the buses.

So...focus on getting a job offer FIRST and then worry about location.

This in the post above is dead on:

Other areas that fit your bill are Suyeong, Kyungsung dea (not that near to the beach but teeming with clubs, pubs and restaurants), PNU, Namchon, Dongnea...

The job is most important. obviously.

This thread was just to get a better understanding of the different areas / neighborhoods of Busan in the event that I have multiple good job offers and need to decide based on location.

But thanks for the replies! The more I know about Busan the better.

I don't know what the other dude's problem is, he needs to relax. I think this is doable, I suggest kyungsungdae area. I lived there over a year. It has 2 universities, so lots of cheap food and night life, there is a subway stop and buses there, a couple gyms, and I used to play bball and tennis at pukyong univ, which is one of the 2 that make that area. Also, you can walk to gwangali beach in like 10-15 minutes.
