the newest and most popular thing is the railroad bike.....
the caves are also pretty popular....
samcheok beach is quite popular for camping in the summer and there is a lot of popular skiing in the winter near samcheok....... |

I liked Donghae alot- the caves were cool. Also the lighthouse
There was one restaurant which was the pits. Another was fantastic.
Eating in the "touristy" places will run 10~20K. Don't eat near the train station.
I did see a Russian and his family swimming over Chuseok- the water was so clear it made me think of the Caribbean. This was near the Candlestick Rocks (can't remember the name in Korean) |

If you like hiking, head up to Mureung Valley. You can catch a bus from anywhere downtown Donghae. Look for bus #12-something (I think it's usually 12-1 or 12-4).
Mangsang, north of downtown Donghae, is the main beach but Chuam, between downtown Donghae and Samcheok, is probably more scenic. |

I spent a long weekend in Samcheok last year and really enjoyed it. In addition to the park, which is very enjoyable, check out the Hwanseongul Caves (which is about 40 minutes outside of town with a bus leaving from the same bus station as the bus to the park). http://www.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_1_1_1.jsp?cid=264551
Also, there is a nice little pavilion overlooking the river called Jukseoru. It's worth spending a little while there relaxing too and it's right in the town center. |

Well in cool things, I'm wondering is there anywhere that would be nice to go camping (on the beach preferably and how to get to the beaches). |

In that case, I agree with Enigma's post.
Mureung Valley is your best bet for camping. It has some really nice hikes, and some of the restaurants are really superb as well.
How's your Korean? I can check the local buses if you tell me where you'd like to go.
I'm not sure how set you are on your itinerary, but Gangneung's a city about 30-40 minutes away from Donghae There's a pretty cool festival there this weekend, the Danjo Festival. Might want to consider checking it out. I went last year and it was a good time considering it's a Korean festival. |
