Hey I just got accepted into the TaLK program, I have an F4 since im a gyopo.
Was wondering if anyone has and experiences with this? I have a couple days to either accept or decline my offer.
Before I started applying to TaLK I wasn't aware of the job boards here and that other schools offer room&board and flight tickets like TaLK does, but now after finding out they are there, I feel like I have more opportunities.
Any opinions on whether I should accept the TaLK or try and find other opportunities? |

| Have you completed Bachelors degree? If you have, forget TALK and go to SMOE, EPIK, GEPIK and take the 30% increase in pay for doing the same job. |

It's not always exactly the same job. My buddy did TALK and only worked three days a week. Moreover, they have a lot of subsidized trips around the country. I don't think it's necessarily a bad move if you want some time to relax and have greater opportunity to explore Korea. |

I've known one whose school worked her like a slave. Some won't use you and others will milk you for all your worth. It's a a gamble
If your an f-4 gyopo, you can be making bank in Seoul.
TALK specifically puts folks in schools that EPIK finds impossible to fill(insane amount of runners). Hence why it's the only legal exemption to the 4 yr degree rule.
I've briefly worked in a few smaller towns(temp. postions) that had talk teachers. Trust me, they're not anywhere I'd spend a year living in. The few TALK teachers couldn't wait to leave...mainly due to the locations. |

Yes, an F-4 I would recommend getting a different job. There are many great advertisements on here for F-4 people.
TALK is for people without degrees. |

I would never do TALK, but am curious about how it works. You only work 15 hours a week? Do you have to do deskwarming? I mean are you still at school for 40 hours a week? If so, then it's not worth it. But if you only work in the mornings and go home or for 2 to 3 days a week then the free time could be a nice trade off. |

Every 'talk' person I have ever known has done 'house stay' with Koreans.....
Everyone has said it's cool at first, but after a month........... 
Esp if you are female - you have to explain where you are going at all times and generally back before 9-10pm 
There was one time where I heard about the K dad walking in on one person whilst she was having a shower (she was cute though) ha ha.
They do get more hol time than EPIK people though. Unless you have a cool school who just give you the time off as well.  |

A rural school in southern Korean can be VERY RURAL. |

I've heard about about curfews, paying money for food, and English lessons for the kids. |

I was wondering the same as the OP, but for another reason: I am not sure if I can commit to a whole year in Korea, but 6 months may be fine.
Is TaLK really that bad? Obviously you don't get paid as much, you're in the ass-end of nowhere, and you have to live with a homestay family... but for someone who may only be able to commit to 6 months, is it worth it?
Also, I heard that if you have a Bachelor's, TaLK may not even consider you because you are "overqualified?" |

The better question is: Could it get much worse?

I wouldn't consider it to be 'worth it'. See the reasons you listed above.
You could always be honest and try to find a six month contract with hagwon or public school.......or you could leave that part out, take a better job than TALK and quit after six months. |

| After quite some time with EPIK, I wouldn't mind doing for 6 months or a year if I had more free time and extra holidays. Be nice to have the break. I knew one guy who had his housing provided and he worked 12 to 5 at a couple of local elementary schools in a rural area. If I had shoter work days, extra time off, it'd be a nice temporary break. But maybe all TALK is different. |
