i don't really know if this is where to post it...but here it goes.

i'm thinking about making the move to china after i complete my current contract. it will have been 5 and a half years. i pretty much have been here straight except for a 4 month break in there somewhere.

but i don't intend on going there to teach ESL mainly. i want to go to a language school (private or university) and learn mandarin full-time.....and maybe work part-time as to not deplete all of my savings.

i will be going over there with a decent amount of chump change. a decent amount i consider enough to live on for a year, maybe more. but this is one of those life goals for me.....to learn a language fluently, that is....and in a country i'd rather be in.

Theres a dude that strokes the China ddong (chim) like in every post he does, so I'm sure he enjoyed it, perhaps you can locate him and send a pm/message.

Basically, from what I've researched/assumed/divined between China and Korea;

You work less for less $$$. You have a chance to earn the same $$$ but would have to do more hours then you would in Korea. Also in china your money goes much further (stuff is cheaper).

i moved to china after working in korea for a year and did NOT like my experience. but, i'm also a chinese-american that doesn't speak chinese so i got treated poorly for that. if you're white, you'll probably get the golden treatment especially if you're in a smaller town.

i found the people to be rude and unfriendly. there were exceptions though.

Oh yeah, OP, I find it funny that in another post you were ripping on someone moving back home. Now you want to move to China and want some advice. Hypocrite.

I have a friend that moved to china and loves it. If youre interested in the language and youre white it should be an easy win.

I made the move about four years ago and am very happy. The truth is most people who are having fun are generally out having fun and not visiting this forum. Check out the China forum you might get more responses there.

I remember a few years back there was a poster who posted about the great experience he was having in China and everyone criticized him. I however contacted him for advice and hey four years later I am living it up in Shanghai. If you want to have a truly great experience in China get educated as everyone and their per dog has a BA. This plus a bit of common sense will help you more than anything in succeeding out here. Pm for more info.

I was looking at some jobs and they were listing something like 700 US dollars. although I've heard of people making ****loads of money in international schools in China. No way, no how am I working for anything like 700 US. The parochial schools in the provinces in Thailand pay about that much as a minimum, and those jobs are not tough to get either. They hire people with out college degrees for those jobs and a lot of them provide apartments at the school.

Isn't pollution a problem nationwide in China? I also heard the quality of the food isn't too healthy either.

Can you get short term gigs in China ? Like 3-4 months? Whats the visa situation like? Do I have to go home to get a visa?

I'm backpacking through Asia soon and I'd like to spend some time in China working for a bit, but I can't commit to a full year again.

I have two years experience in a hagwon and a 100 hr online TESOL.
