Hi guys, could anyone recommend any good private schools in Korea?and how would I be able to contact them?I see alot of offers in the jobs section but I have also heard many bad stories about private schools in the forums so any help would be greatly appreciated.

you didnt spell "good" or "private" properly in your thread title... if you cant even put in that effort why should people here put in the effort to help you? Especially when the job is ENGLISH TEACHER. |

yeah,sorry about that,just a bit on edge as my recruiter JUUST informed me that my application was unsuccessful with EPIK. So im just trying to find an alternative solution.
As for my qualifications, I have a degree in English and Philosophy and have done a TEFL course (120 hours). I have no teaching experiance apart from amateur soccer coaching. |

You don't have to rely on EPIK for getting a public school job. Many schools in Cheongchung-do and other places use private recruiters. Jump from one recruiter to another recruiter and I'm pretty sure you'll find a public school job in Korea somewhere. Don't soley rely on EPIK, you don't have to. You might try GEPIK, but I don't if I would waste any time on them either. |

| just get in touch with as many recruiters as possible and don't be afraid to dissapoint them if you don't go with the jobs they want you to take. once you get offers from schools that fit what youre looking for email people that currently work there and get feedback! if the school won't give you email addressed of current foreign teachers thats a red flag! |

| thanks alot guys,i thought that EPIK and GEPIK were the only way for me to get into public schools. its just quite disconcerting when you read so many stories of people not getting paid or the employer using shady tactics to get out of paying. im pretty open to job opportunities, i just want to have peace of mind that i will not be taken for a ride |

Unless you applied for EPIK last February and just posted now your recruiter is lying (or you have a history with EPIK and they really don't want you for that reason).
Wait for the EPIK recruitment to begin in later in June with starts in August, go with GEPIK AND change recruiters.
As to private schools... do you really mean private schools or hagwans (they are a WORLD apart)?

| I know a couple of people who have been rejected by EPIK for the September intakes, they applied directly and were pretty qualified, had great references etc. |

| ttompatz,REALLY?I always thought that hagwans and private schools were the same thing,what is the difference? To answer your question, i applied through EPIK this intake and this is what I was told. Its just upsetting that they dont say WHY I was rejected. |

Private schools are like public schools but they charge tuition.
They are M -F, 8:30-4:30, gr1-6 (primary school), 7-9 or 10-12, they teach all subjects and offer all the same (or better) benefits that a PS job offers.
Hagwans are AFTER SCHOOL private language academies or a kindergarten that also has language classes for elementary students after they finish their regular school day. They typically offer few of the benefits that you would normally get with a regular school job (ie: no pension, unpaid/not-enrolled in NHIC medical, very short annual vacation time, etc).
