I've had three internet providers since I've returned to Korea and they've all been slow as hell, most with maximum speeds of 5Mbps or so (top downloading speed of 500kb/sec).

I switched to KT Megapass and will probably get it installed tomorrow. I was just wondering if it really is faster? Or has all internet in Korea been slowed to a crawl?

When I used to live here, it was unheard of to have anything below 50Mbps at home and now it seems like 5-10Mbps is the norm (heard this was due to the tsunami damaging sea cables and due to everyone using smartphones).

I'm sick and tired of youtube videos taking forever and a half to buffer.

Thanks.

I'm with SK and continue to hit super high speeds. A well-seeded torrent, for example, will DOWNLOAD at 9-10mbps. I recently downloaded a 25gb BluRay in about an hour.

It really depends on if your building has a high-speed fiber-optic hub. Most high-rises built in the last 10 years do. Most villa buildings don't.

If you're in a villa building then then everybody is effectively sharing one 100/1000mbit connection. The more everybody uses bandwidth, the less each person gets.

I'm with KT/Olleh and regularly get 9-10mbps.......in a new high-rise.

I've had Megapass and I was blown away by it.
9.8mbps download speed, yes please~

But since I came back I stopped using them, a 100mb connection is pretty expensive considering i'm here to save money now T.T

I live in a new high-rise officetel, however the free internet that is available in my apartment is as slow as hell so I don't know if that is an indication.
