|
|
Hi.
Started in April, on the 25th. So worked 5 full days in April.
My pay for the month was to be calculated on a pro rata basis. So what percentage of a month's salary should I have received?
Is is something like 5/21 (21 working days in April this year) or is 5/30 (30 days in the month) or how is it calculated.
Thanks. |

5 of 30 ? So you get paid for working everyday of the month including weekends?
5 of 21 ? So your monthly salary is based on 21 working days every month of the year ?
Only the Gadfly can answer this question as he knows everything there is to know about payroll. |

You get paid a monthly salary. You were employed for 5 days in the month - so 5 of 30.
Your final month pay would be 25 of 30 because you'll finish on the 24th of April next year.
That makes one complete year.
**EDIT** In the case of the OP, it would be 6 of 30 for his first pay (Apr. 25 - 30/2011) and 24 of 30 (Apr. 1 - 24/2012) for his final pay. |

Oh so lets say his salary is 2 million a month.
What would his salary be for 5 days in April?
What would his salary be for 5 days in May?
What would his salary be for 5 days in Feb?
Since you say 5 of 30.
What about 5 of 31 and 5 of 28 ? |

This works to your advantage if you ever use up your sick days (and don't get fired), as you only lose money based on a pro-rated portion of your salary while still being paid for weekends. |

Tiger, since it's a one year contract, your hair-splitting is irrelevant.
If you start in mid-Feb, you end in mid-Feb. So if you got 5 of 28 for the beginning, you'd get 23 of 28 for the final. And you have 11 complete months in between - for a total of 12 completing 1 year.
5 + 25 = 30 = 1 month + 11 months = 1 year
5 + 23 = 28 = 1 month + 11 months = 1 year
5 + 26 = 31 = 1 month + 11 months = 1 year
You get paid for the first portion of the month when you start and you get paid for the remainder of the month when you finish - regardless of the number of days in the month, it is still the method that totals one year of employment and payment.
And before you bring up leap years, yes, I suppose you work an extra day for free every four years when you get paid a monthly salary. |

I got a shout-out! Whoo Hoo!
Actually, since there ARE different ways one might calculate it, the easiest thing to do is to ask the school how they would calculate it. Whatever way they calculate it ought to also reflect the value of each sick day...if your school "buys back" unused sick days.
I HAVE heard of schools calculating the value of each day of each month, which means certain months have higher or lower daily rates. I have heard of schools counting days worked and dividing by that. I have heard of schools taking the annual salary and dividing by 365 -- in this case, ALL of the pro-rated days would be calculated in the pay -- whether they were weekend days/holidays/workdays.
...so long as the school is consistent in its application and pro-rating, it should work out in the long haul, as Occulis pointed out. |

Kraggy, if your salary is:
1.8 mil 5 days is about 415,000
1.9 mil 5 days pay is about 440,000
2 mil 5 days pay is about 460,000
2.1 mil about 485,000
2.2 mil about 505,000 |

(Using 5/21 is legit. Using 5/30 is not. It's used by scam artists though.)
There are two fairly standard ways to calculate your monthly pro-rated salary:
1) You divide the total number of days you worked (including any holidays and sick days etc) by the total number of possible work days (even if they may be holidays etc.)
So, for April you worked 5 days out of 21.
5/21 x Your monthly salary = Pro rata Pay for April
2) An alternative is to consider your total days under contract on a monthly basis. The result can be higher or lower depending on how your situation and the days of the month fall.
You would divide the total number of days you were here under contract by the total number of days in the month. (I don't know when you actually arrived or began for this computation, so I'll use an assumed arrival date.) If you arrived on the 23rd of April, then the 24th would be your first full day here. The 24th - 30th would be 7 days. You were here under contract 7 days out of 30.
So, for April you earned 7 days out of a contracted 30.
7/30 x Your salary = Pro rata Pay for April
If your salary is 2.2 million, then:
#1: 523,810 won
#2: 513,330 won
(Using 5/30 would cause you to be seriously underpaid at 366,670 won.) |

Is that gross pay or net pay?
Do you make 1,680,000 per month?
5/21 x 1,680,000 = 400,000
or
Do you make 2,400,000 and you got scammed?
5/30 x 2,400,000 = 400,000
Sorry, we need more data. |
