Anyone know if North Carolina will do the apostille for the FBI CBC?

Also if not, can I just drive to DC and get it done same day?

The NC Secretary of States office apostilles FBI CBC's.

If you live near Raleigh you should be able to bring it by the office early morning and be able to pick it up in the afternoon. Or just send it in the mail! It took around 5 days.

Make sure you fill out the 'True Copy' from that website and get it notarized before you take it to get apostilled.

One question though, where is the True Copy thing you mentioned? I dont see it on the link....

The state department is supposed to do it because its a federal level document. But it takes at least 4 weeks by mail and they will only apostille the "authentic" version.

So if your pressed for time or didn't know to request the signed version because leave it to the government to make this as tricky as possible. Or in my case, they flat out ignore the request and send the generic one.

You can find the True Copy under the Sample Documents link. You might want to call the number on the website and make sure you need a True Copy rather than an Affidavit for the FBI check. I can't remember if I had to use the affidavit or the true copy for the FBI check. But just call and press 5. They are easy to talk to and will answer your questions. No need in going through the state department when they do it in raleigh if you are in NC anyways.
