IMO, Nirvana should not be #1. I never really bought into the the Nirvana hype.
I honestly think that Pearl Jam and Alice n Chains were much better, much more talented than Nirvana could ever be. Thus, the best thing to come from Nirvana is David Grohl and The Foo Fighters.

Nevermind isn't even Nirvana's best album. You might have a case for Alice in Chains, but Pearl Jam were absolutely awful. In my opinion, some of the members of Pearl Jam made one decent album. |

I actually had that on tape. I played it for my friends at the time...nobody liked it. |

At least I didn't see Ace of Bass on there. They used to play the hell out of them on the radio and it was irritating. The 7th circle of Hell will be a constant replay of Ace of Bass and Wilson Phillips songs. |

I suppose we should be thankful, then. |

Nirvana was way better. All the others just rode their wave. |

The media wave or one based off talen?
We all have our opinions, fair enough. But, looking back, Alice n Chains was probably the more musicaly talented out of the bunch. In addition, they had a darder edge, which made them a bit more appealing. Pearl Jam....well, they've stood the test of time and probably the second best out of the bunch.
Nirvana...yeah, I see some true orignal geniuse in their music but when Kurt could not play anything more technical than an open 5th on his guitar, I'm just not sold on it. |

Depends what you like. If you're looking for long-winded Zeppelin-esque guitar solos, then yeah Nirvana's not going to be your thing... But for me talent is more than just wailing away on a guitar (though I can appreciate that as well). Basically for me his songwriting ability was just much, much better than the others' imo (catchy music sounds 'simple', but if it were as easy to write as it is to listen to, then we would all be rock superstars)... His voice was also the coolest, and he was the most talented singer of the bunch (nobody else could sing quite like him, though they tried).
Anyway, Nirvana's not my favorite band, but I prefer them to any of the other "grunge" bands of that era (though I do like Pearl Jam and AiC as well). They certainly were the most exciting.

How did Radiohead's "OK Computer" beat out "Kid A"......or "The Bends"? |

Because Kid A was released in 2000. As for The Bends, I've never thought much of it. |

Ah, you are correct.
Though...........I thought ZZ Top's "Eliminator" was a great album...wonder why that is not the list. |

The list seems to be more about cultural impact and sales rather than being rooted in what are the greatest albums of the decade. Take 1991, for example, Bandwagonesque was voted by a few magazines as the best album of the year ahead of Nevermind and Out of Time. Is it in the top 100? Nope, not all. I'm not for a second claiming that Bandwagonesque is a much better album than either of Nevermind or Out of Time, but I'd say it warrants a place ahead of things like Use your Illusion, etc. |

I agree Nevermind is overrated, but I can forgive it being high on the "Everyone in the 90s ripped it off" thing. Some of the other parts of the list are just random popular albums, that really aren't that good. |

Surprised it ranked so low. Siamese Dream was even ranked above it. |
Siamese Dream is way better than the bloated wank-fest that was Mellon Collie. Billy Corgan's been on a downhill slide since Gish.
Nevermind deserves number one sheerly on the basis that it finally managed to overtake the dead-and-thoroughly-beaten horse that was hair rock. Not an unexpected choice from "Rolling Stone" either.
Like anything Dylan or the Stones wrote post-1980 has any relevance whatsoever. |
