So my recruiter asked me to use this guy to apostille all of my paperwork, saying he was cheap at $80 and fast, doing it in 3 days...I think it sort of sounds like a scam. What do you guys think? I thought it was going to be $10 at the Office of the Secretary of State, but my recruiter says they don't do FBI Checks, is this true? I am confused, and don't want to get played.
Also, after all is said and done how much am I looking at spending on everything that is necessary to get my E-2 Visa? |

Depends on the state. Some states will do it and others wont. Call your SoS office to check.
Additional costs from here?
I assume you already have your degree apostilled, so the only other cost to you might be getting to your nearest Korean Consulate for the interview, which, if Seattle is correct, will be pretty far from you, and the health check when you get to Korea.
Sometimes the school will pay for the heath check and sometimes not. Either way it will be around 60-80$. |

If the Secretary of State does not apostille FBI checks, where do you get them apostilled? Also, my recruiter told me I don't need an interview anymore, but just need to send everything to Seattle...
Another question is if the school "sponsors your visa" shouldn't they pay for all the costs to get it? |

For your FBI CBC, the federal government should apostille it, since it is considered a federal document. To be specific if is the State Department in DC that produces the apostille, not your individual state's secretary of the state office.
When it comes to apostilles, terminology gets a little tricky comparing the federal versus state secretary of state offices. Your state can apostille your diploma, but the federal government can only apostille federal documents like your FBI CBC. I know for my state(CT) apostilles are $40 compared with the fed. govt. which is only $8, so I did not even look into getting my CBC done by the state.
If you mail in your CBC, it can take a while-mine took 4 weeks from the time I sent it to the time I returned it. They do have a walk-in service in DC that can get your documents taken care of same day, so that is most likely what the company wants the $80 for. |
