One of Japan's flagship ramen chains is coming to Korea!

My friend said it's set to open on the 28th. I'm camping out for sure!
I'm under the firm belief that good Japanese food cannot be found outside of Japan. If you disagree, you have terrible taste and/or have never been to Japan.
I doubt it'll be as good as in Japan, but one can only hope! |
Looks good. OP, please post directions when it is open. |
I like the Korean version of Unaggi(eel) it's known as Chango. It's barbequed over Charcoal and marinated in Gochujang. You wrap it in lettuce and add sliced ginger.
I also think the Koreans do a great job of Sashimi. Love the Fresh fish markets in Pusan, Sockcho and Mokpo. I also like raw fish better with Gochujang than the Japanese Wasabi/Soy combo. |

It sounds fantastic from the description but the photos don't exactly flatter the soup. I'll still try it at some stage, it has to be better than Kenko.
Actually, that sounds way harsher than I meant. I'm definitely itching to run out to Apgu and give it a go, and a fairer comparison is sidling it up next to the little ramen place next to Far East Broadcasting in Hongdae.

And I'm not sure how overpriced the ramen is. It's typically about ~10,000 won for a s***** bowl in Korea, and I'm guessing Ippudo won't be charging much more for it. |
Ippudo in NY is pretty pricey though. i paid $14 for a bowl of ramen when i went last year, so who knows how much it'll cost in Korea.
Some of the better places in the Los Angeles area where I'm from include Santouka (salt-based ramen and probably the best ramen in LA), Hakata Shin-Sen-Gumi (hakata-style tonkotsu ramen) and then there's Daikokuya (which is decent and wildly popular) and these places charge like $6-8ish for a bowl... |
Funny you mention those. Haha, I went to school in SoCal and I've been to all those places. Hated them all. It was more disappointment than actually horrible tasting food. They just didn't hit the spot. And I hate driving in LA... so... yeah.
Still, they were all mediocre (to me). |
Just had the Hakata in SoCal, drove six hours for it, not too shabby for the USA, there was a line a mile long on a Sunday too.

I had dinner at Ippudo on Saturday evening. The restaurant was busy, but not packed. Food was very good overall.
My wife and I had the chicken wings and pork buns for appetizers, shiromaru ramen with all the toppings (w/ an extra serving of noodles), gelato for dessert, and one Suntory draft.
So, the total damage for 2 apps, 1 bowl of ramen (+ add'l noodles), 1 dessert, and 1 beer... just under 70k Won.
Was it worth it? Short answer... no.
Long answer... I'll probably go back, but not very frequently. My wife and I genuinely enjoyed the meal, but we both felt the cost was a bit too steep for what it is, especially the glass of draft beer @ 13K Won (+ VAT, making it more like 14,300 Won). Next time, I would do without the wings and beer and maybe have my own bowl of ramen. Total would be a bit more reasonable, at around 54k Won. |

| Thanks for the rundown. As much as I want to try the beer I refuse to pay that for a beer that isn't even all that great. |

sounds like another poorly run business!
expensive price = luxury!
14bucks for a beer LOL
sure they will be busy for a while, but once everyone gets up to pay and they walk out the door 80% of them wont be back.
it's noodles! for christ sake! |

If ramen can be had for 6 bucks in Japan, why mark it up in Korea? That doesn't compute at all...70K for that? |
