| I've read good and bad things on this board about Christian schools in Korea. It seems pretty hit-or-miss. Is there anyone who can personally recommend a Christian school either by experience or what they've heard? I'd greatly appreciate it. |

http://www.insung.es.kr/ is not perfect but in the big picture of private christian schools i would say it is better than most.......i taught there for a year.......it is in incheon near the ferry port....... |

are you talking about sending a kid there or working there?
Cristian schools in Korea are generally bat-crap crazy and like to control their teachers much more than the next hogwon down the street. |

| I have not heard of that one in particular. But be careful with Christian schools and make sure that you ask their current teachers about their policies. I have met more than a few people working at Christian schools around the country who have curfews / mandatory church attendance / no drinking and smoking and other ridiculous rules. |

no but it looks like it is in seoul south of the river(read wealthy).......my school was the same way.......kids getting dropped off in mercedes by the parents.........the upside is the english level will likely be very high........the downside is the kids will probably be very spoiled b/c of their parents income and their behavior will show it...........
you would have problems in one of the following cases:
1. you ever answered or said you were not a christian
2. you drank or smoked near or at a school event of any type
church attendance during school hours might be mandatory or might not......if i had a school try to pull a curfew or no caffeine rule on me i would laugh and find another school.........
the christian school i worked at always paid me on time which in the private school world is better than most........
i found the parents income level caused MUCH more behavior problems than the fact it was a parochial school.........
i never deskwarmed a single minute at a christian school..... |

If you are a Christian - I will not ridicule or point a finger or bring up some Atheist mumblings. Good for you your likely a better person then me. BUT skip looking for a Christian school. It will either be two ways - very very restrictive or a complete farce.
My advice is find a normal school/hagwon and go to church on Sunday. On Saturdays and other spare time volunteer at a local orphanage. Do not forget to pay your tithe and if you feeling generous find a good charity to donate too.
Years ago I remember a couple who worked at a Christian school and they where making half the money I was. Plus they where working more then me. The school I was - sucked. So their job sucked twice as bad.
Also why I am sour on Christian Hagwons is they are hypocrites and will likely use you. It is renown that most normal hagwon and school owners will lie cheat, steal and screw you in all sorts of ways if they can. Christian schools you would think would be the complete opposite - better behavior, turning the other cheek and brotherhood. Nope business as usual and they are allowed too because THEY ARE CHRISTIAN and THEY ARE GOOD PEOPLE. Let's give an example - you sign a contract for 2.1 million won per month. You get here and they pay you 1.5 million and say you will do this because your are teaching as sort of a missionary and you need to be giving and Christian. Never mind the school is likely still charging full rate or more for the students. Thus using charity and generosity against you. Remember if they could convince you to work for free as a missionary they would.
Now I can understand at a Christian school using moral clauses and asking for certain religious based duties like going to church on Sunday or teaching from religious book. But it can get so overboard or malicious. Okay you start your job - no smoking around the kids, and no live in girlfriend . boyfriend okay whatever. You think you have an understanding - be good at school, everything be private. You start your job and the place starts nitpicking your life - OH your a Methodist (or whatever) but your not Daegu GOD Baptist special sect under Pastor Kim Christian like I am and the school is - you are EVIL. Sorry you have to go to OUR church or THIS church - sorry no choice. Another example, you are great and a beacon of morals in front of the kids but the school wants to make extra sure. So you can not go to the local bar and have one beer with the other foreigners you have to go everywhere with some one from the school.
OP why are looking for a Christian school. What is your motivation? |

You mentioned hypocritical schools and I'm well aware of this--which is why I created this thread seeking "good" or non-hypocritical schools. You see, in this world of Christiandom, it's a sad fact that many many Christians are indeed hypocrites (no surprise, the Bible points this out clearly), especially when they do call themselves "good" or a better person than non-Christians (also in the Bible). I happen to enjoy studying and teaching the Bible. I'm just looking for a legitimate environment to do so.
So the previous school I mentioned offers 9 weeks paid vacation. I notice this is more than most Hagwons. Are you saying this can be a blatant lie just for recruitment purposes? I thought contracts meant something in Korea. |

Anyway, seems to me that these schools would be ok if you just told them what they wanted to hear. Just agree with what they want you to be, whatever religious affiliation they want. I dunno. |

Contracts at hagwons usually mean that you will have some hard and scratchy toilet paper for the short term, for the long term... who knows?
At PS and Uni jobs contracts may mean a bit more but it depends. |
