NYC Gal really you believed them. Have you not been here for a few years! Unless 2.0 is a different version girl. Here is the the basic routine and thing to understand about immigration. Ask your local office a question. You will get an answer. Come back the next day - ask the same question AND .... you will get another answer. Heck same day go to the next counter and ask different officer AND ... you will get a third answer. Ok Ok you might get .... I DON'T KNOW. Go to another office in another province or call the help line and you will very likely get a fourth answer or fifth answer.

I have asked in the past if I needed to get a new transcript and degree verification again as I had already submitted before a few times. I was not asking about CRC that I can understand needing to be renewed. I got the answer of yes yes and they showed me a scan of the verifications on the computer.... Months later and a contract renewal to be done and nope all my records and the scan they showed me could not be found. I was lucky through since of immigrations basic ineptitude for that/this year paperwork was not needed for renewal. Hey maybe next time they will find it. I am not relying on that.

So my advice is always be having and getting your paperwork ready. If you are lucky you do not need it and you only wasted a few hundred thousand won. Better then being unlucky and spend a million or more and months waiting for papers.

As to the 10 year keeping of records. I think they mean they will keep your records of employment and all the bad little things you did. Yet they will forget or want again and again and again all the good or important things. So when you leave this country for the final time they will hold onto that bad info for ten years on the odd chance you come back and they need a reason to refuse you.

This people is not just Korea this is bureaucracy and basic government mess. Korean immigration is the DMV with a different taste (mmm spicy peppers!)

Kraggy, don't believe all of the promises put out there by hagwons. Public schools can be bad, but the hagwon industry can be much worse. At a public school at least you will be paid. At a hagwon, it's anyone's guess.
