Hi,
I am looking for a job in Geoynggido. I have experienced ageist discrimination and I am hoping one of you teachers knows of a vacancy at your school. I failed to get in to GEPIK, why? I have no idea considering the interviewer was content with my replies.
I am an Australian registered teacher. I have four years experience teaching. I was in South Korea between 2000-2002.
I have a police clearance, outstanding work referees, a solid knowledge of modern approaches to teaching, and a sober attitude. I don't drink alcohol and if I do it is on the rare occassion.
I have tried a few recruiters but to say the least they have been useless. I am trying other recruiters nevertheless. Besides, even as a qualified teacher it is still very hard to secure a job. If your school needs an outgoing teacher that loves Korean culture and food hit me up. Currently I am based in Australia. I am 46 years of age.

Occasion, one "s". I never drank beyond a glass of wine with my grandmother on holidays until I was 34 and worked in Korea. So, I doubt drinking is what's holding you back. China though is more of a tea drinking society.
It's definitely got to be your age, and with that you can't go the usual route. recruiters are your best choice if you aren't in the country. Don't go directly through GEPIK, your file will just be pushed behind the next 22-25 year old college graduate without experience, qualifications, desire to teach well, and gray hair showing.
On a side note, you may want to consider The northeastern part of China. I lived in Shenyang, and there is a big Korean community in Xita, as well as international schools. Better cities I understand include Qingdao and Dalian. There is also Harbin, which gets bitter cold in winter but has lovely ice sculptures.
China hires older folks, so if you can't get Korea you might want to look into this. Also, try anywhere in Korea, not just Gyeonggido. Maybe you can get a job in the EPIK areas of Korea. I am sure there are some places way out in the country that most college graduates would not like be at. I liked in Yeongyang, near Andong, and could only last 3-4 months before I looked for something closer to the bigger cities. |
