|
|
I used this service once before to call the US from my mobile phone. Now it's getting me nowhere. I dial the number, wait for the recording, then dial 001 1 nnn - nnn - nnnn.
Each time I'm directed to a recording that explains, 'the number you are trying to dial is a vacant number', whatever that means.
I've tried other services, alternatives to 1688-5959. And I've tried calling alternative numbers in the US. Every time, it ends with the 'vacant number' message.
Anyone know what is wrong? |

I've never tried that number but:
1688-4949 is the number I always use. There may be a 5959 number but I've never used or heard of it. Maybe you meant to use 4949? |

Again, I've tried other services, alternatives to 1688-5959.
My point is, the problem doesn't seem to result from the particular international call service I use. |

Yeah, I read that part, just thought I'd mention it. Good luck.

I know you said that already, but I just want to help.
After you dial the number and hear the recording, you want to dial like this:
1 - *** - *** - **** - #
e.g. 1 - 718 - 924 - 6583 - #
Hope that helps! |

But now what you're saying has me really confused.
You don't dial the country code? And you press the # key at the end? |

You do dial the country code. I've never called anywhere besides the US, so I'll use the US as an example. US country code is 1, so the 1 in the beginning is the country code.
1 - 000 - 000 - 0000 - #
Country Code - Area Code - Phone Number - Pound
eg.) 1 - 718 - 555 - 5555 - #
I don't know if you can read Korean but here are the instructions on the website for the service you're using:

When I have called the US from a landline in Korea I dialed 001 - 1 + the number. I had read on a couple different websites that 001 is the international access code for the US, and then you must dial 1 + the number.
I realize now that when I did successfully use 1688-5959 I had 'mistakenly' forgotten to dial 001.
Anyway, thanks a lot.
Worked out for the best, as in the absence of the mobile phone, I managed to configure my internet connection so I could call from my computer for free :P |
