Can anyone here tell me about the differences between the SK and KT versions of the Galaxy S2? The salesmen in the shops are generally clueless about this kind of stuff. I've been an SK customer for several years (VIP member) so I would like to stay with them, but if the KT version is significantly better I might be willing to make the switch.

Does either one or both come out of the box pre-unlocked for use abroad? (I've heard that the first model of the Galaxy S for SK was unlocked, but I can't find any information about the Galaxy S2) If not, can either one be easily or cheaply unlocked?

Are there any other issues that make one better for use abroad? (different frequencies or whatever)

I also heard that the SK version has some sort of custom MMS system. What exactly does this mean? Is it just custom software for displaying the messages? Or does it mean that if I use this phone with another carrier I won't be able to send or receive MMS messages? The first one seems like no big deal, but the second one would be a deal breaker.

Are there any other differences that I'm not thinking of? Included software? Functionality? Cosmetic differences?

I want to have as much information as possible before I make the choice.

Thanks!

This doesn't address your question directly, but regarding SKT & MMS:

I have a HTC Desire. I rooted it and installed a custom ROM. After that, MMS has not been working properly. After doing some research, I believe it's because of SKT's MMS implementation, and I still haven't gotten it to work. For me, it's not a huge deal. Although I'd prefer that it work properly, the advantages of rooting and the custom ROM outweigh the MMS functionality. SMS works fine.

I haven't heard of any issues with people using SKT smartphones on other networks, but can't give you a definitive answer either way.

Only differences are SKT's MMS implementation. I don't see how that would be such a big problem though as normal phone calls, SMS and 3G would work fine. AFAIK S2's come unlocked. You should just ask your dealer when you buy/sign up for it.

My Galaxy S 2 came unlocked (tested it with a Canadian sim card) from SK, but I did buy it outright. When you pay in full for a phone it should always come unlocked so I don't know what would be the case if it were on contract.

As for the mms issue, I imagine it must be compatible with other carriers, otherwise the phone would not working properly for sending texts and receiving them when you are roaming and using another network. I'd note that the person who originally wrote about the mms issue on XDA developers mentioned it BEFORE the phone was released also claiming it only supports the gsm 900/1900 bands which contradicts other information online stating it's quad band gsm.

How much does a Galaxy S and Galaxy S 2 cost now? I lost mine, and my insurance covers 65만원.

s2 was quoted to me as 817,000. Not sure about the s1, but I've seen it used off contract for 400,000ish.

Another difference is that KT's Galaxy Tab runs on WiBro/WiMax 4G, rather than 3G WCDMA... which means you get much faster and more reliable internet, for the tablet as well as tethering. The one downside is that you can not make phone calls from the KT version.
