It's been 2 weeks since I left Korea and the last e-mail that I got from my handler said
"Me and staff s of office stand by wiring your money to your account right now.
But you have to pay remittance fee to your account. Therefore you are going to get rest amount of money except remittance fee.
Do you agree this?
Originally the school should remit money to your Korean account you asked at first, but the stafffs try to remit money to your international bank account for your convience. It takes a lot of work in the bank.
Let me know you agree that you get the rest amount of money but remittance fee."
That was on Tuesday May 31st. Today is Saturday June 4th and the money has not been credited to my account.
So, now I'm in Istanbul taking the CELTA course and I'm quickly running out of cash. I've spent my savings on rent, this course, food, stuff like that...perhaps a little indulgent but not in light of the fact that my school promised to pay me TWO WEEKS AGO!!! |

Plenty of English Zone money for new trophy cases and stickers on the steps, but no money for severance? |

It must be something like that. It has put me in a very awkward position here in Turkey. I'm halfway through a CELTA course that I can't finish paying for and I've had to borrow money from friends to buy groceries and even a doctor bill. It's embarrassing and my school administrators should be ashamed, not me. |

At orientation for GEPIK in April, we were told that the remittance fee is footed by GEPIK. So no, you should not agree to that. They're asking to screw you, basically. I would e-mail my GEPIK handler about it (if you need their e-mail address since your traveling, PM me and I'll look it up on my sheet at home-just let me know what district you fall into). Chances are, if you contact your coordinator and they have to get involved, the matter of the fee will be dropped and your money will appear shortly. DO NOT PAY THE FEE!!!! Good luck |

It took Gepik about a month and a half to pay me. I had to submit a severence request form. Of course, nobody told me I had to do that. I am still waiting for my airfare. |
