| I'm interested to know what degree you're getting because if you want to be a teacher then a BA in Education is far greater than any other degree. It opens more doors than anything else you can get. And there are numerous countries that only allow certified teachers teach ESL (usually the highest paying jobs). |
Sadly, the open university don't offer such a relavant degre... |
I'm sorry but I'm not sure that I see the point of working 4-6 yrs on a degree so you can get to Korea that didn't come with a teaching cert. It's true that you don't need a teaching cert in Korea but you will be significantly more marketable in the TEFL world (including Korea). And have a better chance of moving out of the language center level teaching jobs. Not to mention you will have studied something relevant to your job.
Can I ask what the degree is in? |

i've just started with a few "openings" modules that can be used as credit towards most degree's..so I still have time to decide.
An open degree could be an option, with a mixture of subjects relevant to teaching (they do things like working with early years) and just fill the gaps with what i'm interested in. So on paper it would be like
BA Open Programme (Education & Social Sciences) |

| You know you can work in China without a degree right? No one explicitly stated that, so you might not have put it together. Why not go to China and work there while you do your distance learning. |
I don't see much in the way of jobs accepting candidates without a degree. Also, all I read on here suggests going to China without a degree is a numer one way to get screwed by your employer.
Sure if I could do it without getting screwed over i'd go in a heartbeat allthough i'm probably financially a lot better off working in the UK till I get a BA.. |

| You're so early in your degree and you know exactly what you want to do, it's a shame that you choose a degree which opens you less doors and gives you less long time prospects. To each their own.. |

Why not go to a 'real' university? Work about three days a week while studying and any debts you have, bring them to Korea and then after a couple of years you should have paid them off. You can easily save 8,000 pounds a year here.
Seems like maybe reason you have chosen open university might be a lack of confidence or self belief. |

Ignore this. Just saw that you posted that you don't have the qualifications to get into uni. I thought it was just a money issue. |

Surely an English Language qualification would be more respected then many other degree's ?
If so that would be great, as I have found a poissibility with BA in Humanities with English Language and History |

It's great to look into things in advance, but THIS far in advance? The upside is that you've committed yourself to getting a degree. As long as it is a valid Bachelor's (4-year, usually, but sometimes 3), then you should be fine for a teaching visa.
4-6 years from now? Phew! China might be the place to be if you're looking to make money, or even Vietnam for that matter. No sense in even thinking about that until you're at least 7/8 the way done with the degree.
Good luck with it. Age won't be a factor IMHO. |
