Last night, like none. After laying there awake for two hours I even tried the thing where you get up and do something. Got up, read a book. Nope. Got up again and prepped for today's classes. That did it. I usually fall asleep by going to my happy place but since my roommate announced she's moving out and I realized that my happy place is my apartment with no roommate, I've been having some trouble. I can't sleep because I need to box up all her stuff and put it on the curb. Except I can't do that because it would be rude. Waiting...
I fell asleep around 3am, woke with a start at 6:15. Joy. Normally I sleep 7-10 hours depending on the day. |

I absolutely need 7 hours. I'm better with 8 hours. Optimal at 9 hours.
I was having some trouble sleeping recently (my neighborhood is very noisy, and the noise stops completely around 3AM). I need to have my window open for proper airflow. Anyways, I'd often wake up, not knowing why, several times. But now I'm pretty sure why I was waking up: outside noise. The sounds of adjoshis spitting and horking, drunk people yelling, fights, dogs, cats crying, cars, garbage trucks... the list goes on!
Anyways, what I find works great is playing a one hour loop of ocean waves just loud enough to drown out all the outside sounds. At around 11:00 or 11:30 I put it on and read a book. It makes me feel very comfortable, and kind of makes me feel like I'm in a natural environment... like there is really an ocean outside. I've never drifted off to sleep so well...
Anyhow, I've been doing this for a while now and I've been sleeping amazingly... waking up feeling nice and fresh. Also, not eating after 9pm (if you plan on sleeping at 11:30 or so) is the way to go...
I've heard different theories on this, but whenever I sleep and have dreams (thanks to REM sleep) I always wake up very refreshed. With the ocean waves going on in the background, I'm dreaming much more vividly and it seems as if I fall asleep at 12ish (lights out!) and wake up at 7ish... it's a straight sleep without any interruptions. After an uninterrupted sleep with REM sleep, I'm finding myself feeling sooo good in the morning, enough to even jump out of bed with enthusiasm (and I am NOT a morning person either!!)
Try it out. If you need the MP3 loop, I'll set up an account on Media fire for you to download it. Cheers |
