So, I have two quick questions:
I'm planning on getting a bike in the next couple weeks and I was wondering about the best place to get a helmet and what the cheaper (but good) options for motorcycle gps were.
Thanks! |

Don't know about the GPS but as for helmets (and all my gear) I like a store called Woosin in Chungmuro. They have a website woosinshop.co.kr where you can see most of what they have. You can order online if you know what you want. If you go there, they are really helpful and friendly. If you're lucky the owner's daughter (Christine I think?) will be there and she speaks great English.
Wish I could remember exactly how to get there. I think it's straight out of Chungmuro station exit 8. Keep walking to where all the bike dealers are and it will be on your left hand side. |

| Ok, thanks for the info. I had heard the Woosin name thrown about before, but wasn't sure exactly where it was. If I need a size they don't have, do they offer ordering in store or anything like that? |

I'm going to have to check out the Woosin shop in Chungmumro. I saw a few HJC helmets near Wae Dae/Shin ee Mun..they were on sale for 120 thousand won. I might pick up my helmet there if it's the best price around here.
I'm wondering if it's worth paying extra and buying a Korean (Daelim) bike at a shop instead of off individuals. They say it comes with a/s and they help you out, but you end up paying a bit extra. There's a Daelim VJF-i 2010 with 4000 km on it for 2.5 million Won. I also dropped by a Daelim shop close by and they have a 2009 or 2010 VJF-i for 2.3 million Won. They keep telling me if I get older Daelim's it's going to be a pain in the ass. They also told me they'd buy it back when I have to leave which is a plus for me since I'll be riding 6-8 months then heading back to New York. Is the price markup worth it for a/s and whatever? Daelim's are cheap to fix, no? |

We are going over a few things that have already been talked about at the beginning of the thread...so I'll mention this forum again.

Some of the shops and web sites are mentioned there in the general discussion. The forum isn't that great because it will only show topics within the last 30 days. Every time you want to see older topics you'll have to click on the button at the bottom of the page and select 'from the beginning' to see everything. In the future I'll try and move all the valuable info from here and the forum to a better location. At the moment I'm too busy.
As far as buying from a shop...I can't say if it's worth it. They can be pretty sneaky. You really need to know your stuff or they'll try to slide stuff past you. Make sure you have a shop you can trust. Other than that, if you can't get a bike from an individual...what choice do you have? I bought my Honda from a shop...it had a few problems, but since I've had them ironed out it's been a fantastic bike. I know plenty of folks who've had great experiences and others who got really ripped off. When buying bikes from shops I'd prefer to buy something I knew was likely kept in good shape from the get go. Either a new bike with little chance of high miles or a bike that doesn't usually get ridden hard (like a nice Harley or Shadow). I had my bike compression tested and that has turned out to be the saving grace of my bike. The engine is mint despite some poor upkeep on forks, a shot battery and carbs in need of some real love. |

Thanks for the tip. I've been wary about buying from a shop but I've been just as wary about buying from an individual. I guess the only real plus is that the shop will be willing to buy the bike back when I have to leave the country. There's a nice looking 2010 Daelim VJF-i there for 230 but we'll see. The price is kind of steep for me. But I agree that I'd prefer to buy a bike that I know was most likely kept in good shape and not beaten the hell out of. I'll be heading back to the shops with a friend who knows a lot about bikes so we'll see.
Thanks again! |

I have a Quebec motorcycle ONLY license for all engine sizes, furthermore it is a probation license (1 year done, 1 year to go) because I did not have a car license prior to getting my motorcycle license. This license still lets me ride on my own, it simply means that I have a 0% legal limit for alcohol.
Can I exchange for a Korean motorcycle license? I'm moving to Korea in september so I just want to make sure I have all documents ready |

No, you cannot exchange for a motorcycle license, even if it's a regular license. Only car licenses are exchanged. You should get your car license before coming to Korea.
You will have to take a motorcycle riding test once you get your Korean car license. |

I don't have time. I guess I will need to get a Korean car license. Plus it will probably be cheaper. |

Anyone interested in a 2009 Comet GT250R?
Black, 9,000km and pre-injection model.
My friend got a good deal on it because Hyo brought out the injected models at about the same time and the shop needed to unload this one.
He's leaving and passing the savings on to you. 2.2 mil takes it home. That's a great price for a bike in this condition.
I'd love to pick this thing up for commuting but don't have the extra cash these days.
If you're ineterested pm me and I can send you his contact info. |

IIRC, 2009 was the first year (in Korea) that injection came out and 2008 was the last year that was carburetted. Are you sure it's a 2009? Or sure it's not injected? |

my bike is now alarmed... beep! boop!
i feel like a douche when i boop it and now i have to go check it when it pages me every time someone looks with their hands, but hopefully it will save me another parts bill (and a lot of rage)... a proximity warning would be handy too, no? i might try to mcgyver one...
that's even more douchey, isn't it? i could even use a record/play module that issues a,"만지지 마세요!" for passers-by... probably make people trigger my alarm more. i'd probably touch it just because it told me not to too... |
