Long story short... The owner of my school is having a lot of financial and student retention problems. As a result, he recently fired three of the four foreign teachers at my school - myself included. My other two coworkers have their FBI check so the owner is helping them find another job... however, I do not have my FBI check. My last day of work is in mid July so my Visa is up August 1. Does anyone know if I can stay in Korea for a couple weeks after my Visa expires? Can I extend it temporarily? Is it possible for me to acquire a tourist Visa? Is so, how? Thanks for any help. I appreciate it.

You can transfer your working visa to a tourist visa for 30 days after your visa expires. You must do it before the expiration date on your ARC.

Create an account with HIKorea using your ARC number and then complete this application online ---> http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/CvlapplInfoDetailR_en.pt?cvlapplCd=12700000095&locale=en&cvlapplGbSeq=

You should ask your school if they have a copy of your ARC. I bet they have the number. It's your birthdate plus some check digits.

Lost your ARC you will need a replacement (or pay a 100k won fine) to leave the country.

You cannot overstay your visa without an extension.
You need your exit ticket (along with ARC, passport) to get the extension.

Your other choice is to leave and return (depending on your nationality you will get from 30-180 days on a visa waiver entry stamp), settle your business and depart at your convenience.

If you are looking for a job, you can apply for a new visa type and stay for up to a year longer.

The issue is if your boss cancels your visa. I got fired once, visa was never cancelled. Stayed in the country for another 9 months, and during that time went overseas twice. No problemo.

You have to leave the country on or before the expiration date of the visa. You have absolutely no grace period!! that's why you have to file for an extension *before* it expires .. wait till afterwards and there are only fines and worries about a black mark with immy.

I would have to buy my plane ticket home before I get a Visa extension? What happens if my Visa extension is denied once I have bought a plane ticket home past the Visa extension date?

If you are here on a valid E2, have an exit ticket dated within 30 days of your ARC expiry (or termination of contract) then will extend you for free. Unless you are arrested for something during your remaining days it won't be denied.

With my last employer, I simply told him that I wanted to spend a couple of weeks in Korea just sightseeing (basically true) and asked him to extend my visa. He did so with no problem. I had to go to the immigration office and wait about an hour in line. I seem to remember I just needed a letter from him. I don't think it cost anything. They took my ARC card. I don't remember if they needed my passport or not. They mailed the ARC card back to me within 3 or 4 days and the visa was extended. It was extremely easy.

I'm wondering, do E7 visa holders also have to apply for the 30-day extension after the visa is cancelled, or is it automatic?
