|
|
Hello -
I'm wondering what it's like to work in various places on the Southern coast of South Korea. What is the weather/work/life like?
For example:
Cities/towns in the Gyeongsangnam-do-
Jinju
Samcheonpo
Tongyeong
Cities/towns in the Jeollanam-do-
Yeosu
Jin-do
Also, what would it be like to work/live on an island? Do you feel too isolated? |

I can tell you about Samcheonpo: it's a nice city, very friendly. It's wedged between the sea and the mountains, so it's fairly scenic. It also is big enough that you'll be able to buy most of the basics you need, but it still has a rural feel to it. Anything you want that you can't find you can get in Jinju (unless you're really needy). Don't expect there to be many other foreigners. As far as I can tell, the only ones here are a couple of public school teachers in Sacheon (but I've yet to run into them), and two or three missionaries who won't bother with you since they're too busy converting heathens. Not a thriving night life, but if you make some friends, there's enough to keep you occupied on your down time.
But most importantly, the people here are really great. I've been invited over to random Korean's houses for dinner on multiple occasions. You'll become a bit of a D-list celebrity in your neighborhood. Overall, I like it here!
Anything else you want to know, feel free to PM me. You should totally come here, I could use some people to talk to who can speak Englishee fluently. |

I'm thinking of moving to Sacheon. Are you still there? |

realthetoric, did you end up moving to the area? Does anyone else have feedback on this region? |

Well I like it here in Yeosu, but I've only been here just over a month. Before coming here I lived in Newcastle and Edinburgh (in the UK), and it doesn't feel too small. The foreigner community seems pretty tight knit like everyone on here said it would be. If you want a public school job starting in the summer you can get one through GA Education |

Samcheonpo is a great place to live. My wife and I have lived here for 2 years now, and are really going to miss it. The Koreans are beyond nice and there are a few foreigners in town. The town has everything you could possibly need, but still retains a natural charm that bigger cities lose. |

I live in Yeosu and I don't see why anyone would want to live if they weren't hiding from law. There is little culture. Little night life. Most Korean youngsters move onto brighter pastures (seoul and busan) as soon as they can.
Don't make the mistake I'm making and live here. Save yourself from boredom and depression. Live in a big city, or closer to one. |

OP....
It depends on what your interests are.
Jinju is nice, decent location, nice scenery, etc. Lots of opportunities for bike riding, hiking, camping, etc.
Yeosu.........well...............again, depends on what you are looking for.
Have you considered Changwon or Suncheon?
