I am trying to register for the July TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean). At first their website seemed strangely well-designed and logical for a Korean website. Alas, it was a trick. They are not letting me pay. I tried to input a credit card number and "foreign credit cards are not allowed." O-kay. I live in Korea, but I only have a US credit card. Is that so hard to grasp? So, I try the tried and true system of selecting the bank transfer option, because that is usually pretty simple in Korea. But I only get error messages. The "account holder's name" field doesn't even allowed me to enter my name, because it's too long (people registering for the TOPIK don't have three-syllable Korean names- imagine that!).
I am so sick of dealing with these crap Korean websites, and only have a few days to register for the test by the deadline. I cannot find an e-mail address anywhere on the site. Can anyone help me with this ridiculous process? I mean, I hate organizations like the ETS that run the SAT, GRE and TOEFL in the US (and the Korean tests cost a fraction of those scams), but at least their websites aren't designed by retarded monkeys. |

Couple options.
First, the difficult one call them and try to work out the name issue over the phone. Their number is 02-3668-1331.
Second, easier but requires a friend with a Korean cc. Have them pay and give them cash.
Good luck on the test. What level are you taking.

Yeah, I'll probably try to call them. Taking 고급, after all, not like I can't call. But no, I will not have a Korean friend pay and then pay them back. I am so sick of this crap. "Oh, just have a Korean friend help you!" No, why don't YOU go to the US and have an American hold your hand whenever you go to take a pee. |

Oh, and T-J, I wasn't attacking you- you were just offering suggestions (pretty much the only two routes possible). I am just sick of this Korean response- it's not that Korea has a systemic problem, but YOU need help and should just ask a Korean friend. |

I was able to register for TOPIK with my DEBIT card (a BC branded card). I didnt expect it to work but it did. Maybe you can try that. |

Has this stupid payment system been updated in the last 6 months since this post was created?
Or do they still reject foreign credit cards? (Why they hell is this so)
Is the Bank Transfer option still difficult?
If anyone has any recent info, please update here. Thanks. |

I just paid today.
I tried using my korean credit card, but it didn't go through - some password I'm supposed to have/know that I don't have/know.
Anyway, the bank transfer option was pretty straightforward. Select that option, select the bank, it gives you the account number, you go and transfer it at the ATM or online. You then get an email response. Easy peasy, |

Something to consider when registering for the TOPIK is whether it is an international test or a test offered only in Korea.
The test currently open for registration is an international test.
Test date: 4.15
Results : 6.4
(almost two months to get your results)
The next test will be administered in Korea only.
Test date : 7.22
Results : 8.4
(under two weeks to get test results)
This might not be a big deal to some, but for me waiting two months after I take an exam is frustrating. Food for thought...
Registration for the July test is 6.12~25 by the way.
