Why is life a continuous process of having to put up with people you dislike, disrespect and basically HATE, just for the sake of trying to make life easier?
I mean, theres always one: the complete idiot, b*tch, ass that you get saddled working with, or worse, under. And yet you can't simply errupt in a rage and tell them how stupid and pathetic they are- because they are your boss, or your supervisor, or you have to sit next to them for a year... so, for the sake of a harmonious workplace, you have to maintain reasonably friendly relations, greet them each day, and generally pretend that they are acceptable people...

I used to burn my bridges a lot when I was younger: generally fall out easily and instantly with whoever annoyed me. I even punched my boss once because he was a complete as***le.
But now I'm older i guess I've learned to generally try and get along with people no matter how they might annoy me. Just because they are in charge of my payslip, work schedule, whatever...and I can't work in an atmosphere of fights and hatred...
My director is a slimy c** kroach; my supervisor is a small minded bi**tch hated by everyone she comes near; I 'd love to tell them both how pathetic they really are and maybe shake them by the hair or bounce them off the walls. But of course, we're all slaves to keeping our jobs and keeping people on our side....the daily play act of life goes on and on...

I don't know why it has to be like this- but I agree with you totally!
Some days- the only way I get through is to allow myself to daydream about all the things I want to say to these evil snakes...............
and maybe on my last day- I will. Man- that will be sweet..........

All the world's a stage to some extent. It is frustrating to those of us who like to be blunt about things, but with practice, we all get better at it. Razz

Freedom of expression is the greatest thing in life to me. But it always seems life is rigged, with elaborate social structures, to prevent people from freelly saying whatever is on their minds.
I mean, you can't just walk around telling someone "I think you're a stupid t*at" or "Have you noticed, everyone hates you"- because you'll just end up messing up your situation...

personally, i try to spend the least amount of time around people i hate. I'll do WHATEVER I have to do to stay away from them; be it, recluse into my room and never leave; or constantly listen to my mp3 player while i prepare and he/she could talk to me.

I try to not let myself hate someone as it takes away valuable energy from my half depleted storage tanks. I prefer to use that kinda bad vibe to make songs and stuff like that.

Yip- I don't know if it's a birth order thing, temperament thing, or just being dealt a hand that comes no where close to a full-house. But- the game is bluffing until the game is over.

I'm pretty much the same way when it comes to being pinched inbetween folk who- well- yeah. The problem is that it can turn into a full time job being bitter and that takes time and imagination. Catharsis (venting/hitting/screaming) - a 30 year old theory lost-out because people just became more violent/angry.

I would like to say something profoundly encouraging in your situation- but I'm not sure what except that lots of us have been in the meat grinder such as yours. All you can really do is bluff and find meaningful relationships outside of work to the degree that you go to work with enough positive social energy that it would take them 2 days to bleed you dry rather than two minutes.

The first school had to lying managers whom I can say, have both fallen into the VERY small handful of people I can claim to hate.

Second school middle manager was a bit the same, but not quite in the same league.

I don't know if you have seen The Office - a british series, but there is a character called Gareth whom everybody doesn't like but thinks that everyone does. We all have lots of those!

I seem to have only one co-worker I dislike.

She is a new teacher who is only teaching kindergarten. She is korean and getting her masters in English (apparently).

She constantly complains about the work saying she hates teaching and hates kids. She is even rude to the other korean teachers.
When I said I wanted to go see a baseball game she turned her nose up at me and snorted (whoa hold on Bitch)

My question is do I rat her out to my director and try and get her fired or what. I mean she makes me correct her homework assignments for university!! She is also pulling major attitude which I think has no place in a hogwan especially since this is her first time teaching

thoughts comments welcome

She makes you correct her homework? What's she do- threaten to beat you up and steal your lunch money?

C'mon, handle this directly with her- like the grown adult I'm sure you are. Making trouble for her with the director will only backfire and make things worse for you.

I think this is just a matter of saying no. "I don't want to do your homework assignments for you. I'm too busy. If you were nice to me I might correct them for you".Or, ask her to do you favors in return- "post these parcles home for me, book these tickets for me, - anything that you need help with from a fluent korean.

She's a co-worker, not a supervisor, and has no power over you.

I guess I've been lucky. I haven't worked with anyone I really hated except right after high school when i decided it was a better idea to recondition football helmets for $5/hour 9 hours a day at the local helmet reconditioning factory. Two guys there used to drive me crazy. Though I owe them credit - I decided maybe it would be a better idea to go to college then deal with that kind of life. I went, they could still be working there to this day. He who laughs last, laughs best!

I know exactly how you feel. There are plenty of assclowns that deserve to be thrashed. However, there are limitations. No job is worth an unlimited amount of BS. If I really hated dealing with those sort of people, I would tell them to drop dead and then give them the middle finger as I walk out before my classes begin. I have no loyalty to any job...especially to any here in Korea. Life is short.

I don't put up with BS...and theres not any open hatred...but its uncomfortable because you know that its just below the surface...in a back- handed korean way. You can't just relax, or they'll be on top of you. Its all about the aura you give off to deflect it..the threat is ever present....
