All it takes is to step in between them (yes you are not minding your own business... that is the only major issue) but then the other person has a choice, to walk away or just shout at you, or hit you for standing in between. If he does so, when you have done nothing physical... he has hit you! period!... so you can report it if you want to take it that way or you can react in defence.
(yes its very simplified, and conflict situations are never that simple, but it basically works) |
That is a good option.
In any case you have caused a distraction that is often enough to defuse the situation.
Like you I don't understand how anybody can stand and watch a woman getting punched by a guy. That sort of thing stays with you... |

Does anyone even know what they were talking about in the video?
Yeah, he took a jab at her. It's not like he pimp slapped or or took an uppercut to her chin.
Honestly, if she can't stand up for herself and hit him back (or at least kick him in the nuts) than screw it.
Equal opportunity, ladies...right?

Irrelevent because that is a different situation, as you know.
If you guys want to go "man up" and be a hard charger, getting involved in petty crap like what was shown in the video, go ahead.

The victim went straight to the metro police sub-station and had him arrested. He was a college student in his early 20's. His life won't be easy as long as he stays in Korea. It's an old news though.
I'm wondering why the OP brought this up... for what purpose? |

To show other teachers that Koreans are not just aggressive towards foreigners on the subway, they do it to other Koreans as well. Hope this helps you understand. |

There is also the sense of worthlessness that accompanies not acting when you should have.
Contrasted with the sense of worth you get from stepping in to help.

If you run into a situation , consider that.
I talked down in wife beater in Andong awhile back. I just couldn't stand what I was seeing. I just kept my distance ( I also had about a million won on me from privates, and didn't want to lose that ) and embarrassed him.
In another case, I stepped in when a pack of Thais were savagely beating a Vietnamese on a Sunday in Taipei Taiwan where we were all working. (Myself as a teacher, and the Thais and Vietnamese in factories )
Luckily, two Africans came to my rescue or I would have been dead.
So I had to teach with a black eye and fat lip on Monday, and who cares that I was just trying to help someone.
The only thing , though , that I would do different in the Taipei case was to start flinging by San Miguel bottles at the Thais, or enlist the help of the Africans upfront. |
